South Korea has its own award season. The most popular dramas are nominated at the 58th Baeksang Awards, and Twenty-Five Twenty-One has succeeded in joining the nomination list. The popular Netflix K-drama has some competition.

‘Twenty-Five Twenty-One’, ‘Squid Game’ and more might take home the win at the 58th Baeksang Awards

The competition is tough this year for the 58th Baeksang Awards. According to Soompi, the organization released its full nominee list for TV and movie. The eligible K-dramas, movies, and series premiered between April 12, 2021, and March 31, 2022. Fans are over the moon at the K-dramas that might take home the win this year.

In the TV category is the breakthrough drama Squid Game. But the globally famous drama has some competition. The K-drama D.P. is also nominated. The 2021 K-drama gained fame for its gritty and realistic depiction of mandatory military enlistment and mistreatment.

Joining the nominee list is the historical K-drama The Red Sleeve. The K-drama became one of the most talked-about dramas thanks to its storyline packed with turmoil as a future king falls in love with a court lady. The recent Netflix K-drama Twenty-Five Twenty-One has also secured a spot at the 58th Baeksang Awards.

Twenty-Five Twenty-One stars Kim Tae-ri and Nam Joo-hyuk in a romance melodrama about first loves, friendship, and letting go. The K-dramas nomination is a big deal among fans as it recently ended its run on Netflix and is the talk of the town.

The possibility of Twenty-Five Twenty-One winning in different categories at the Baeksang Awards is high. Leading actor Kim Tae-ri is in the running to win the Best Actress Award. The 31-year-old actor blew away fans with her portrayal of 19-year-old Hee-do in the K-drama.

In the Best Actress category are some of the industry’s leading actors giving Kim a run for her money. Park Eun-bin is nominated for her role in the gender-bending K-drama The King’s Affection. Actor Lee Se-young from The Red Sleeve is also nominated. Han So-hee rivals the actors for her standout role in the revenge-driven crime K-drama My Name.

Squid Game’s Lee Jung-jae and Tracer’s Im Siwan are in the running for Best Actor. Actor and idol Lee Junho is also nominated for his role in The Red Sleeve. As well as, Jung Hae-in for his role in D.P. Lee, recently won the Korea PD Award for his role as Yi San.

Choi Hyun-wook is in the running for Best New Actor at the 58th Baeksang Awards for his role as Moon Ji-ung in Twenty-Five Twenty-One. He is nominated alongside actors Goo Kyo-hwan and Shin Seung-ho from D.P. The nominees also include Yoo In-soo from All of Us Are Dead and Tang Joon-sang from Racket Boys.

The award show will be broadcasted on May 6 at 7:45 p.m. KST via JTBC.
