Valerie Bertinelli started acting as a teen

At the age of 15, Bertinelli took on her most memorable role as Barbara Cooper on Norman Lear’s hit sitcom, One Day at a Time. The show ran for nine seasons — from 1975 to 1984 — on CBS. And for her performance, Bertinelli earned several accolades, including two Golden Globe Awards.

After One Day at a Time, the actor appeared in various television films and miniseries throughout the ’80s and ‘90s. She landed recurring main roles in two sitcoms — Sydney and Cafe Americain. And in the 2000s, she became a TV spokesperson for Jenny Craig and appeared in several of the company’s ads and campaigns.

In 2010, Bertinelli took on the role of Melanie Hope Moretti in the hit TV Land comedy Hot In Cleveland opposite Betty White, Jane Leeves, and Wendie Malick.

Bertinelli received two Daytime Emmys for Valerie’s Home Cooking. She’s also appeared on other Food Network programs, including Kids Baking Championship and Food Network Star
