Bishop Heahmund is the Bishop of Sherborne and a warrior. When Ivar captures him and takes him back to Kattegat to fight against Lagertha, Heahmund is wounded in battle. Lagertha chooses to spare his life and wants him to be healed. They instantly form a connection and it seems like they are going to be happy, but it doesn’t last.

When they retreat back to Wessex, Heahmund has a vision of hell and he takes it as a sign to leave Lagertha. She claims he never loved her and they end things in the worst way. Heahmund dies in battle against King Harald and his warriors in a very moving moment.

Fans weigh in on Heahmund

Fans have a lot of feelings about Bishop Heahmund and they are all over the place. Some consider him a great addition to the cast with not enough screen time, while others can’t stand the character at all.

One Reddit user thinks the overall plot for the character is lacking. “His plot was awful but the concept and his outfit was awesome,” a Reddit user said.

“He did have his moment. But his 24/7 psycho eyes just beg to say he was trying too hard,” another Reddit user wrote.

A fan was annoyed with the way the actor spoke in scenes. “I just got really annoyed with the way he spoke, always really low and dark, and tried to sound mysterious no matter what,” another fan commented.

Not everyone liked Heahmund and Lagertha together

One fan says they love the character but the situation with Lagertha wasn’t ideal. “Loved this dude. The romance story with Lagertha was poor but everything else about him was at least entertaining. A show set in this time period needed a ‘holy warrior’ type,” said another Reddit user.

Other fans seem to agree. “His story went down the hill the moment his romance with Lagertha started. I have no idea why they separated him and Ivar. So much potential,” the fan chimed in.

Someone else thinks the character seemed “out of place.” “Couldn’t stand him. He just seems so out of place,” they said.

Another viewer of the series had the opposite opinion and loved the character and thought more screen time would have been ideal. His death was also very poetic and some fans appreciated that.

“I personally loved the character, even though he had more potential and deserved more screen time,” the fan wrote. “Say what you will about him, but his death is one of the most beautiful, tragic and poetic moments of the show.”

“I loved every moment he was on-screen,” another fan said about the character.
