A Reddit user recently asked the Vikings community who they consider the most dangerous “antagonist.” The catch is fans could only choose between King Ecbert (Linus Roache) and Prince Oleg (Danila Kozlovsky). Ecbert was the King of Wessex until his untimely death at the hands of Ragnar’s sons. Oleg is the ruler of Kiev who has formed an alliance with Ivar the Boneless (Alex Høgh Andersen).

Both men can be considered ruthless and cunning. The user brings up excellent points including how intelligent Ecbert is compared to the nobles and other people that surround him. Even when he dies, he signs over land as the king when in fact he’s already had his son crowned so it’s all null and void. Oleg on the other hand took over Constantinople, but was unable to keep it. He’s shown his ruthlessness toward everyone, especially his family.

Who is the most dangerous?

The Reddit user let their thoughts be known as well. They believe Oleg is more vicious. “I’d go for Oleg being the more dangerous and threatening antagonist. He’s just crazy, dancing whilst poisoning his brother and doing what he did to Dir was a bit insane,” the Reddit user said.

Fans had a lot of opinions on the subject. Another fan agrees that Oleg is the more dangerous out of the two leaders. “I think Oleg is more dangerous, if only because he seems like he is dancing close to the edge of insanity. He is much more casually violent than Ecbert,” another user pointed out.

Another fan doesn’t consider Ecbert a credible threat because he never outright tries to attack the Vikings’ homeland. While Oleg is quick with resources to help achieve his goals and take over Scandinavia in the process.

“Oleg secures his power by removing his brothers and holding Igor then immediately moves toward preparing to invade,” the user explained. “Oleg also has vast resources and military forces compared to Ecbert.”

Not everyone seems to agree

However, not everyone agrees that Oleg is the winner of this debate. Some consider Ecbert to be the best “antagonist.” He was more than manipulative and cunning.

“Oleg has a bigger army, and the Rus seem to be more unified than Ecbert’s people ever were. That said, Ecbert will always be the best antagonist on Vikings,” a fan admitted.

Another user seems to agree. Ecbert has a number of traits that put him ahead of others, including Oleg, who gets upset over almost nothing. Ecbert is calculating and always a step ahead of others.

“I think Ecbert was more dangerous,” another user wrote. “He was calm and pragmatic which I don’t really see these traits in Oleg. Oleg got mad at Igor, a 12-year-old boy probably, because he was messing around.”

Fans have differing opinions when it comes to who is the most dangerous antagonist on Vikings.
