In the premiere episode of season 6, Bjorn is King and must decide what to do with some of Ivar’s (Alex Høgh Andersen) men that carried out heinous acts on his behalf. Bjorn chooses to let the bandits live, including the man who becomes their leader, White Hair (Kieran O’Reilly).

The bandits don’t just rush off into the woods to die, but they start raiding and doing what they want. Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick), Bjorn’s mother, is forced to abandon her dream of living a life of peace as just a simple farmer. She gets everyone ready for a fight with the bandits who finally come for them.

Bjorn’s son dies in the attack

The attack includes a heartbreaking death for both Bjorn and his mother. Hali (Ryan Henson), who is Bjorn’s son, comes out before the bandits actually leave. He’s doing what kids do and holds a sword at the men, but not before the bandit leader rushes him with his horse and cuts him down. He dies in the attack and Lagertha is extremely devastated by the loss.

Hali dies because Bjorn allows the bandits to go free

If Bjorn had done what many would have done in his place and killed those men, Hali, his son, might still be alive. He had to make a tough call, but in the Viking world, someone is always responsible. Bjorn will surely have to take responsibility for the bandits’ behavior and his son’s death.

With the election for the King of Norway still up in the air, things could go either way for Bjorn. But one thing is certain, he’ll eventually hear of his son’s death. Will he take responsibility for what’s happened? Bjorn could have killed the bandits for what they did for Ivar, but he chose not to. He let them go, and because of that, they did what they did.

Bjorn’s choice changes everything

Bjorn Ironside’s life will never be the same now. He made a terrible choice as King of Kattegat and now the people will draw their own conclusions. This could all be a turning point for Bjorn though. He could bounce back from this and get justice for the dead, including Hali.

However, this isn’t the only bad choice Bjorn seems to make in season 6. He’s once again cheating on his wife, Gunnhild (Ragga Ragnars). Fans are more than a little disappointed in Bjorn Ironside who doesn’t know how to be loyal to one woman at any given time.

Will Bjorn learn from his past mistakes? Could he decide that being King is too much and renounce the crown? Hopefully, fans will get the answers they need in the next episode of Vikings.
