The internet is truly the gift that keeps on giving. Yesterday, when a man tweeted a picture of what appeared to be shrimp tails in his box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal, no one expected it to result in the saga that ensued. Over the course of the entire day, thousands of people became invested in the shrimp tail Cinnamon Toast Crunch scandal. But now, people are finding out that the man who started it all, Jensen Karp, is actually married to Danielle Fishel, better known as Topanga from Boy Meets World.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch and shrimp tails

Yesterday morning, Karp was eating a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch. When he poured his second bowl something fell out, he told The New York Times in an interview.

“I picked it up, and I was like, ‘This is clearly a shrimp tail,'” he said.

When he looked in the bag again, he found another. “I get really grossed out, and I’m medicated for O.C.D., so this is a total nightmare for me,” he said.

He then took to Twitter to ask Cinnamon Toast Crunch what was going on.

“Ummmm @CTCSquares – why are there shrimp tails in my cereal? (This is not a bit)”

Initially, Cinnamon Toast Crunch’s Twitter account responded saying that they would send Karp a replacement box, but as the tweet started to gain traction, the company changed its tune.

“After further investigation with our team that closely examined the image, it appears to be an accumulation of the cinnamon sugar that sometimes can occur when ingredients aren’t thoroughly blended,” they tweeted Karp. “We assure you that there’s no possibility of cross contamination with shrimp.”

“Ok, we’ll after further investigation with my eyes, these are cinnamon coated SHRIMP TAILS, you weirdos,” Karp responded. “I wasn’t all that mad until you now tried to gaslight me.”

As Karp looked further into the box, he discovered that there were “shrimp skins-looking things, a small string,” and a “small black piece” on some of the squares. After seeing the black pieces, he got concerned that they could have been rat feces.

“That’s what I’m trying to get tested right now, because that’s the only thing that really matters to me as far as if I can get sick,” he told the NYT. He then called California Poison Control and took a sample to Quest Diagnostics, who was unable to test the sample. So far, Karp has not felt any symptoms of illness.

Jensen Karp is married to Topanga

As the story started to gain traction, people began to do research on Karp and realized that he is married to Fischer…and that’s when the internet basically broke.

“Imagine saying ‘wow the shrimp cinnamon toast guy is married to Topanga’ to any normal person,” one person tweeted.

“Cinnamon Toast Crunch shrimp tail guy is married to Topanga and that completes 2021 bingo for me,” another person wrote.

One fan even guessed how this scenario would have played out on Boy Meets World.

“Cory Matthews would absolutely have found shrimp tails in his cereal and had no idea what to do until Topanga showed up,” the person wrote.

“While Eric quietly and unsuspectingly ate Cinnamon Shrimp Crunch before they could take the evidence to the police,” he continued. “Meanwhile, Shawn Hunter would mention a cousin who had a similar thing happen to him but no one ever heard from him again.”

“The episode ends with Mr. Feeny finding more shrimp tails in his garden,” the person finished.
