Many WandaVision fans tuned into the 2021 Emmys on Sept. 19, eager to see the Marvel series take home a few awards. Unfortunately, the show left empty-handed that night. WandaVision had received 23 nominations, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, but lost to shows like Mare of Easttown and The Queen’s Gambit.

Fans of the Disney+ superhero show have since taken to Twitter, coping with the losses by sharing plenty of angry memes. On the other hand, though, plenty of viewers took the opportunity to praise WandaVision. Here are some reactions.

WandaVision stars Paul Bettany as Vision and Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff. The Marvel series received 23 Emmy nominations in 2021.

‘WandaVision’s Emmys snubs sparked memes from fans

Many WandaVision fans pulled images and GIFs from the show to express their disappointment in the Emmys ceremony. One viral meme, shown below, featured Elizabeth Olsen’s character, Wanda Maximoff, looking at a property deed. However, instead of a sweet message signed “V,” the deed was covered in the phrase, “WandaVision did not win at the 2021 Emmys.”

In the caption, the Twitter user wrote that WandaVision got “robbed.”

Another tweet showed Wanda saying, “Don’t talk to me about that. I don’t want to hear about it.”

Meanwhile, one user had some choice words for anyone in the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences who voted for Kate Winslet over Olsen for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.

“If you voted for Kate Winslet, I hope your pillow is always warm, I hope your milk is always spoiled, I hope your wifi is always slow, I hope your drive-thru order is always wrong, I hope every stoplight you come to is red, and I hope you stream WandaVision on Disney+,” the tweet read.

Many fans have put a positive spin on the losses

WandaVision might have lost in the big Emmy categories, but many fans still see the series and its cast as winners. They took to Twitter to shout out Olsen, Paul Bettany, and Kathryn Han.

“The range that Elizabeth Olsen showcased while playing Wanda Maximoff in WandaVision was absolutely remarkable,” one user wrote. “That was a tough category, and any winner is worthy, but I’m just so proud of her for changing the game and delivering that outstanding performance.”

“A flipping Emmy doesn’t define the series. [WandaVision] was AMAZING. Everyone knows that, greatness always gets snubbed, but greatness lives on!” another tweet read alongside a GIF of Olsen.

One person pointed out that the WandaVision cast should still feel proud of 23 Emmy nominations. The series had the second-most Emmy nominations of any television show at this year’s ceremony, a huge achievement for Marvel.

“Unfortunately, Elizabeth Olsen didn’t win the Emmy,” another tweet read. “However, to even be nominated for an MCU project AND character is already impressive. Her outstanding performance in WandaVision truly shined as she nailed six different eras of sitcoms, and we should all be very proud of her.”

In the spirit of keeping things positive, it’s important to note that WandaVision did win three awards. During the Creative Arts Emmys on Sept. 11 and 12, the series won in these categories:

  • Production Design for a Narrative Program (Half-Hour)
  • Original Music and Lyrics (“Breaking The Fourth Wall/Song Title: Agatha All Along”)
  • Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes (“Filmed Before a Live Studio Audience”)

Those three awards made history for Marvel Studios as its very first Emmys. Plus, here’s something to remember: it only takes one to be considered an Emmy Award-winning series.
