  • The studio moved Shazam! Fury of the Gods up to a December 2022 release slot.

The Batman has gotten fans of the DC Extended Universe excited for the future, but it looks like they’ll have to wait a bit longer to see what else the franchise has in store. Warner Bros. Pictures just delayed the remainder of its DC movies slated for 2022. On the bright side, it also moved up one much-anticipated release.

Upcoming DC movies delayed by Warner Bros. Pictures

Just as the DCEU began promoting its five theatrical releases slated for 2022, Warner Bros. Pictures pushed two of them into next year — and moved the other two back by a few months.

Originally, the studio intended to release DC League of Super-Pets, Black Adam, The Flash, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom this year. However, it seems plans have changed. Variety reports all four DC movies have been delayed.

DC League of Super-Pets and Black Adam will still debut in 2022, but both films received new release dates. DC League of Super-Pets, originally set to hit theaters in May, will now do so on July 29. Meanwhile, Black Adam got bumped from its July release date to Oct. 21.

The Flash and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom both moved from 2022 release slots into 2023. With Warner Bros.’ current lineup, the Aquaman sequel will arrive on March 17, 2023. The Flash will follow on June 23, 2023.

‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods’ release date moved up

Although fans are disappointed that several of 2022’s DC movies just got delayed, there is one bit of good news. Shazam! Fury of the Gods also switched release dates in Warner Bros.’ scheduling shake-up. However, this move works in fans’ favor.

The Shazam sequel originally held a release date of June 23, 2023. However, it will now take Aquaman’s spot during the 2022 holiday season. Shazam! Fury of the Gods is currently slated to arrive on Dec. 12, 2022.

Fans have been eager to get their hands on this follow-up to the 2019 film, so this marks a pleasant surprise. Sure, we’ll have to wait a bit longer for The Flash and Aquaman 2. However, if they’re as successful as The Batman, it will certainly be worth it.

Although Shazam! Fury of the Gods replaces one of the DC movies delayed from 2022 to 2023, Warner Bros.’ scheduling changes decrease the number of films we’ll see this year.

Of course, four theatrical releases is still an all-time high for the DCEU — and that’s not to mention the upcoming Batgirl film heading to HBO Max. The franchise already started the year strong with Peacemaker and The Batman. Hopefully, that will continue as we head into spring and summer — even with all the scheduling shifts.
