Was Kylie Jenner’s Relationship With Tyga Proof Kris and Caitlyn Jenner Were Bad Parents?
It’s been almost a year since Travis Scott and Kylie Jenner broke up. They’re still hanging out, and co-parenting Stormi together. Scott even moved in to self-isolate in Kylie’s California mansion, so he could be closer to his daughter. Fans are so distracted by Kylie and Scott’s sweet relationship that they sometimes forget about Kylie’s other serious boyfriend: Tyga. But Redditors recently started a thread to discuss the relationship, which they see as incredibly troubling.
Kylie Jenner’s parents let her date a much older man
Fans see Kylie’s relationship with Tyga as a failure of Kris and Caitlyn Jenner’s parenting. Tyga lived near the Jenners and met when asked to perform at Kendall’s 16th birthday. Tyga is almost a full decade older than Kylie. It is rumored they were dating started back when Kylie was 16 and Tyga was around 24, and Kylie confirmed their relationship when she turned 18.
Not many parents would allow their underage daughter to date an older man, but Kris and Caitlyn didn’t seem too concerned. As one fan wrote “Caitlyn’s ‘strict dad’ image must have just been for the show, because she was nowhere to be found, when she was actually needed.” Other fans pointed out that Caitlyn may have been distracted by her transition and divorce at the time, but it doesn’t seem like much of an excuse to let something this big slide. For her part, Kris started dating her first husband, Robert Kardashian, when she was just 17. She may see relationships between younger women and older men as totally normal, but Caitlyn should have been there to put her foot down.
Tyga has a complicated link to the Kardashian Jenners
What makes Kylie and Tyga’s relationship even more troubling is the fact that Tyga was constantly rapping about sex and drugs. Plus, he was dating Blac Chyna when he and Kylie first met. Chyna had a son with Tyga before getting with Rob Kardashian and having their daughter, Dream. That means that Tyga still has a weird familial link to the KarJen clan, even after he and Kylie have broken up. He’s the father of Kylie’s niece’s half brother.
Some fans think it’s notable that the Kardashian family treated Tyga very differently than they treated Chyna. As one user posted, “Also the whole family was way harder on Chyna than they’re on Tyga, which never sat right with me.” Fans think those are some serious double standards at work, and it’s not just the Kardashians who harbor those kinds of prejudices. The public also gave Tyga a break, when many feel he did not deserve one. As a fan commented, “public opinion going for Kylie for ‘stealing Tyga’, stfu, he is a grown man, who left his fiancée and kid for teenager. Double standards are the key words.”
Kylie Jenner and Tyga’s relationship reflects poorly on the Kardashian sisters, too
Fans think it’s not just Kris and Caitlyn who were bad parents. They also blame Kourtney, Khloé, and Kim for being bad sisters. They were older than Kylie, and Kourtney was already a parent herself. According to fans, good sisters would have stepped up and said something about the inappropriate relationship, especially since Kris and Caitlyn obviously had their minds on other things. One fan posted “I feel like out of all the sisters I would have expected Khloe or Kim to be the most protective of kylie and the most angry at tyga…but🤷🏻♀️ they had the energy for Chyna I guess lol.”
Other fans think that Kris actually wanted Tyga and Kylie to have a relationship. Kylie’s older sisters may have objected privately to the relationship, but it’s possible Kris encouraged it. Fans think Kris was so desperate for her daughters to be famous that she would have allowed her underage daughter to have a relationship with a much older rapper just for the fame. As one fan put it, “Tyga was never really a big household name, but he knew a lot of people more famous than he was, and by allowing Kylie and Tyga to date, it boosted both Kylie and Tyga’s careers, and allowed Kylie to make even more celebrity connections.” Fans think that if Kris did “cheer on” the relationship, what she did was way worse than just bad parenting.
