Wendy Williams Blasts ‘RHOA’ Star Nene Leakes Following ‘Ambush’ Call: ‘I Am Not a Housewife’
Wendy Williams returned with a brand new episode of her talk show following a brief hiatus. The daytime program had been off the air due to the coronavirus pandemic and Williams is now hosting from her home. After being gone for a couple of weeks, Williams returned spitting fire in her “Hot Topics” segment and might have reignited a feud with Nene Leakes.
Why did Wendy Williams get upset at Nene Leakes?
The talk show host recalled a moment she shared with the star of The Real Housewives of Atlanta last Friday, April 3. Leakes was on Instagram Live and contacted Williams without a warning that left her upset.
“On Friday evening I was in the house minding my own business … my phone rings shortly after 10 o’clock and it’s Nene… I said, ‘Hi Nene, why are you screaming? Why are we on speakerphone, your house is big enough? What’re you doing?’” Williams shared. “She [NeNe] said, ‘Girl.’ I said, ‘Yes Nene, why are you talking so loud?’ She said, ‘I’m here with all my people…’”
Leakes FaceTimed Williams and that didn’t go well with the TV host as she is not a fan of that feature.
“You know I don’t have face or time for FaceTime, period,” Williams added. “If I don’t do it for my own parents of the show, why would I be doing it for someone over there. I like NeNe, but she’s still an over-there person to me!”
The RHOA star wanted to chat with Williams but the latter was reluctant as she was in the belief she was filming for the Bravo show.
“Honestly, here’s where the ambush comes in. She said, ‘Wendy, look’ — she was in hair and makeup and wardrobe with all her people — she said, ‘We filming and I want you to be on the speaker.’ I said, ‘NeNe, I did that for you one time.’ Remember my appearance? One time! I made it very clear, I am not a Housewife. Sorry, my career is a bit … different … than being a Housewife. I don’t need that kind of attention.”
Did Nene Leakes and Wendy Williams talk after?
Williams said she eventually hung up on Leakes and had yet to hear back from her as she didn’t apologize to her either.
“When you call somebody and you want them to participate in something, you call them off speaker in the other room first. Say, ‘I want to record with you I wanted to see if I could,’” Williams suggested, although the answer would still be the same. — “No, I am not a housewife.”
Leakes, later on, posted a cryptic message on Instagram. Many fans have interpreted this as her response to the new drama with Williams.
“Public disrespect and private apologies don’t mix,” Leakes posted.
Leakes and Williams’ friendship has been rocky over the years. The RHOA star recently revealed that Williams’ ex-husband might have had something to do with her not getting her own talk show. Their friendship had been on a good path but this might have deviated it somewhere dark. One thing is for sure, they will both be talking about it soon enough.
