For the entirety of her career in showbusiness, Ellen DeGeneres has been known as a loving, caring person who promoted kindness as one of her main pillars. In contrast, TV host Wendy Williams has been lambasted for her candid takes on people’s lives, often unfiltered and sometimes downright mean.

While Williams’ tone has been consistent since her days on the radio, former guests and employees of The Ellen DeGeneres Show are coming forward to reveal their less-than-pleasant experiences with the comedian. Though producers on the series have acknowledged issues and a possible toxic work environment, DeGeneres has denied any knowledge or wrongdoing — though she has pledged to do better.

Now, fans are remembering the time DeGeneres tried to call Williams out for her “meanness” and the New Jersey native shaded her right back.

Wendy Williams is one of the most controversial talk show hosts of all time

Williams rose to fame in the ’90s and 2000s as a radio host in New York. For her outtakes and controversial bits, she became known as the  “shock jockette.” In 2008, she got the opportunity to bring her candor to TV with her nationally syndicated daytime talk show, The Wendy Williams Show.

Though she isn’t always “nice” with her delivery, Williams has been wildly successful with her gossip and hot topic segments, often putting her at odds with celebrities like Nene Leakes, Nicki Minaj, and 50 Cent.

For the most part, Williams has remained unbothered, even pressing forward when her own marriage crumbled in 2019 forcing her to take and extended stays from the show.

Ellen DeGeneres is being exposed for being ‘mean’

Unlike Williams who has built her brand off of salacious comments, DeGeneres has always been seen as one of the nicest people in Hollywood. However, that narrative began to shift amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Some of DeGeneres’ crew came forward revealing she had abandoned them amid the pandemic.

This opened the floodgates for former employees and guests to talk about DeGeneres’ ill-treatment toward them.

DeGeneres released a statement on July 30, 2020, addressing these claims. She stated,

As we’ve grown exponentially, I’ve not been able to stay on top of everything and relied on others to do their jobs as they knew I’d want them done. Clearly some didn’t. That will now change and I’m committed to ensuring this does not happen again.

Wendy Williams shaded Ellen DeGeneres after a rude question

It appears that Williams caught on to some of DeGeneres’ “questionable behavior.” Back in 2013, Williams first appeared on The Ellen Show. DeGeneres slyly called out the radio hos for being “mean” asking if Willims had ever gotten in trouble for speaking badly about other celebs.

This quickly shifted the tone of what was meant to be a lighthearted segment. During a game of Heads Up, Williams shaded DeGeneres when trying to get her to guess Justin Bieber’s name. Williams said, “Some people say that he looks like you.” DeGeneres looked confused. Williams then asked the audience, “I’ve heard that! You’ve never heard that?!”

It appears that DeGeneres met her match that day.
