Wendy Williams has said a lot of messed up things on her eponymous daytime talk show. Remember the time she mocked Joaquin Phoenix’s cleft lip? What about the time she body-shamed Ariana Grande? Or how about when she said Beyoncé “sounds like she has a fifth-grade education” and insinuated that she should just stop talking?

It’s honestly hard to keep track of it all. However, you’ve probably never seen a drama like this latest one. Williams is getting major backlash for joking about the death of a well-known Hollywood therapist who used to date Drew Carey.

What to know about the death of Amie Harwick

Harwick, a popular marriage and family therapist, fell to her death from a third-story balcony on Saturday, Feb. 15 during a fight with her ex-boyfriend Gareth Pursehouse, multiple outlets report.

She dated Pursehouse in the early 2010s, according to The Los Angeles Times, but the relationship ended with Harwick filing a restraining order against him.

“He was a stalker,” Harwick’s friend Rudy Torres explained to KABC. “When they broke up, he didn’t take it well at all. He’d do stupid stuff and say stupid stuff. You’d tell him, ‘Move on, dude, leave her alone.’ And he wouldn’t.”

Harwick, 38, went on to spark a romance with The Price Is Right star Drew Carey. They went public with their relationship in 2017 and became engaged in early 2018 but split later the same year.

The Times reports that Harwick had recently run into Pursehouse at an event, which a source said appeared to “reignite his obsessive preoccupation with her.”

The restraining order against him had recently expired when Harwick died, per CNN. Pursehouse has reportedly been arrested in connection to her death and is being held on a $2 million bail.

What Wendy Williams said about Amie Harwick’s death

On the Feb. 17 episode of The Wendy Williams Show, the TV host shared the news of Harwick’s death with viewers. As she detailed the crime, she evoked Carey’s famous The Price Is Right catchphrase “Come on down!” She then tilted her head down to the ground, as if she was watching someone fall.

The remarks left the crowd speechless.

The reactions to Wendy Williams’ comments on Amie Harwick’s death are heated

As you can imagine, people are appalled and outraged over Williams’ comments. They rushed to Twitter to share their thoughts and really let the television star have it.

“I KNOW #WendyWilliams did NOT just make a ‘come on down’ joke about Drew Carey’s ex-fiancee getting killed by being thrown off of a third floor balcony !!!!” one person tweeted. “Somebody tell me i heard that wrong, please..but the audience is stone-cold quiet..”

One viewer asked Williams how she could be “so hurtful and insensitive.” The person also said, “It’s inexcusable, so don’t even try to make excuses.”

Someone else called Williams’ remarks “classless,” adding, “Amie Harwick, an amazing woman and champion for mental health awareness was senselessly killed and you used it as an opportunity for a one liner. HOW F*CKING DARE YOU.”

And another person flat out asked Williams, “What the hell is wrong with you?”

Oof.

As of writing, she has not addressed the backlash. But maybe she’ll speak out soon.
