‘Westworld’ Season 3 Trailer: Fans Have Hope of a Possible New Romance for Dolores

Dolores has had quite a journey in two seasons of Westworld. The character, portrayed by actor Evan Rachel Wood, is the oldest host in the park, and in the beginning, much of the plot centers around her, as she begins to recall old memories that should have been “wiped” long ago.

The character has grown and adapted as her surroundings constantly changed. And in the season 2 finale, more is revealed about her than ever before. Now, headed into season 3, a shot from the trailer has fans wondering — is Dolores in love with…herself? [Spoilers for season 2 of Westworld]

Dolores’ love interest, Teddy, died in season 2

Previously, Dolores had a love interest. Early in Westworld Season 1, she and Teddy (played by James Marsden) are shown interacting. He’s drawn to her over and over again, and their romance plays out as well as it could, given everything that’s going down during this time.

But in season 2, their relationship begins to shift. Teddy is angry at Delos just as Dolores is, but he can’t bring himself to take the kind of action she can against humans. She reprograms him, but he can’t live with the change, and eventually kills himself.

A 2019 trailer featured a shot that got everyone talking

Romance isn’t exactly the name of the game in Westworld. The characters, both human and host, have a lot more going on. But many fans are still hopeful for a little bit of love within all of the drama. And it looks like they might get it.

In a brief moment in the San Diego Comic-Con season 3 trailer, released in July 2019, Dolores and Charlotte are shown spooning in bed. The moment isn’t necessarily sexual in nature, but it definitely got people talking. And actor Tessa Thompson highlighted it (as seen above) on her own Instagram.

A new ‘Westworld’ Season 3 trailer has another moment between them

There’s a lot of time between Westworld seasons, and the same goes for the promotion. Throughout 2019, there were rumors as to when the show was scheduled to return. Finally, on Feb. 20, 2020, HBO released the final official trailer for season 3, which premieres on March 15.

As always with this show, there’s an incredible amount of information to dissect in the above trailer. New characters like Aaron Paul’s Caleb are full of mystery, and the whereabouts of others, like Bernard, are too. But one tiny second (at 00:19), brought joy to those who want to see a relationship between Charlotte and Dolores.

Charlotte isn’t who she appears to be

Of course, there’s one important thing to remember. Despite it being Thompson up on the screen, the character we’re looking at isn’t Charlotte Hale at all. You’ll recall that, in season 2, we learn that Dolores killed Charlotte at some point, and put a copy of her own profile in a host body of her.

So is Dolores simply taking care of a version of herself? Or could it be something more? One possible fan theory revolves around the second Charlotte host (as seen in the season 2 finale), which could have been uploaded with Teddy’s unaltered consciousness. This would be a fitting tribute to her former love. But we’ll have to wait until March to know for sure.
