HBO released the first teaser for Westworld Season 4. The two minutes of footage offers some hints at some of the answers to mysteries fans have been wondering about since season 3. The biggest mystery of all has been solved: the Westworld Season 4 premiere date.

[Warning: This article contains spoilers for Westworld Season 3.]

‘Westworld’ Season 4 premiere date: June 26, 2022

Earlier in the year, HBO execs had promised Westworld Season 4 was coming this summer. They did not give a specific date at that time. The trailer and its accompanying announcement confirm Westworld returns June 26. New episodes air Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO and streaming on HBO Max

This will be the longest gap between Westworld seasons by nearly two months. Season 3 ended May 3, 2020. There was a 21 month gap between seasons 2 and 3, and 16 months between 1 and 2.

‘Westworld’ Season 4 trailer suggests Dolores’s resurrection

At the end of season 3, Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) sacrificed herself to prevent Rehoboam from controlling the human population. Wood had been seen on the set of Westworld Season 4 despite her and the creators being cagey about Dolores’s return. Wood’s hair was red on the set.

The Westworld Season 4 trailer shows a red haired Wood walking through a crowd wearing a green suit. Then she’s in a bar, but is that Dolores? A later shot of Wood submerged in a tank of water suggests she could be the resurrection of Dolores, or something else.

More hints in the trailer

The Westworld Season 4 trailer was a montage set to “Perfect Day” by Lou Reed. There was no plot or dialogue, but plenty of striking imagery, like a host’s face splitting down the middle and some sort of insect (or nanobots?) flowing out. The logline is one of the shortest ever: “A dark odyssey about the fate of sentient life on earth.”

As for our returning characters, the trailer shows Maeve (Thandiwe Newton)walking through a field. Later she is on the stage of an empty theater with Caleb (Aaron Paul), lifting the needle off a Victrola. Caleb sits atop a skyscraper in the beginning of the trailer. Later, he’s crawling on the floor to escape what looks like a host without skin.

Charlotte (Tessa Thompson) gives a cryptic “shh” while couples dance around her in the street. Ashley (Luke Hemsworth) sees the Man in Black (Ed Harris) in the city. Bernard watches a tree catch ablaze. Finally, a tommy gun suggests another host park set in the world of ‘20s gangsters.
