Blake Shelton’s newest album Texoma Shore was released on Nov. 3. On his last album, many people expected him to address his divorce to Miranda Lambert, and he did. But now that he has moved on to having a serious relationship with Gwen Stefani, we had to wonder if she will be mentioned?
The answer is yes. In his first single, “I’ll Name The Dogs,” there are some pretty big nods to the couple’s relationship. So what will the rest of the album say? Here are seven things we know so far about the album and what it says about his love for Gwen Stefani.
1. In ‘Turnin’ Me On,’ he sings his love for Gwen Stefani’s red lipstick
Gwen Stefani has been rocking red lipstick for decades, and now it’s getting a love song. On Shelton’s album, there is a song called “Turnin’ Me On” — and the lyrics describe a woman that sounds just like his famous girlfriend.
Knows how to set me on fire, she’s always holdin’ the match / And when my body’s beside hers, there ain’t no turnin’ back / She’s Revlon red in the blackest night, lighting up the room in the world / Just like she’s turnin’ me on
The specific dropping of “Revlon red” is, of course, referring to the singer who has been the face of Revlon in advertisements. The song pretty much talks about how much the singer turns him on with other lyrics like, “Knows what she’s doing with a single touch.”
Texoma Shore is full of references to the pop star, and it even the name has a secret meaning referring to their time together.
2. Texoma Shore is named after a trip he took with Gwen Stefani
The album is a reference to the celebrity relationship, even down to its name. Texoma Shore refers to a trip the couple took to Lake Texoma, according to Blake Shelton’s website.
“There was one week in particular where it was just Gwen and I out there just basically hanging out,” said Shelton. “We finally had some time off, so we went out on the water every day, went back up to the house every night, and just had one of the greatest times of my life.”
3. ‘At the House’ possibly gives more specific details on that trip
So what do Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani do when they hang out at a lake house together? “At the House” most likely answers that question, given the song paints a picture of stargazing, lighting candles, and listening to music, like Barry White, together.
It’s a pretty romantic song about staying home with a lover.
4. ‘I’ll Name The Dogs’ suggests he wants to marry Stefani
The first single to come off of this new album was “I’ll Name The Dogs.” The music video shows a wedding, and the lyrics are all about planning a wedding and looking forward to naming dogs and children together.
The song definitely refers to the couple’s real relationship, given Stefani’s sons are in the music video.
5. Shelton does say the whole album isn’t full of personal songs
Although some songs obviously refer to things that are going on in his life, not all of them focus on his relationship or other personal subjects.
“I don’t think this one’s as personal,” Shelton said comparing this album to his last album If I’m Honest. “There’s a song or two on there that are directly personal, but, you know, for the most part, I just made an album that feels how I feel now — that’s just happy and go with the flow.”
6. Sadly, there isn’t a couple’s duet on Texoma Shore
If you had high hopes of hearing Stefani go country on this album, you might be disappointed. ET asked Shelton if there was a duet with her on this album, and he simply answered, “No.”
But there have been other opportunities to hear them together recently.
7. The couple also collaborated on Stefani’s Christmas album
Shelton isn’t the only one who came out with new music in 2017. Stefani came out with a holiday album titled You Make It Feel Like Christmas.
On the title track, the couple sings together on lyrics like “Sleigh bells singing ‘Hallelujah’ / Stars are shining on us too / I want to thank you, baby / You make it feel like Christmas.”
