Robert Pattinson may be best known for playing Twilight’s Edward Cullen, the sparkly-skinned vampire of teenage dreams, but there’s much more to this British actor than good looks.

His image as a teen heart-throb is one he’s worked diligently to overcome, and he has been extremely selective about his film projects, a move that has greatly paid off. Over his 16-year career, he’s played an assortment of characters that required considerable acting chops.

Not one to shy away from smaller roles and indie flicks, in addition to his blockbuster hits, Pattinson has amassed an impressive roster of roles, and a fair amount of money.

The Twilight Saga is without a doubt where Pattinson made the majority of his estimated $100 million net worth. At the start of the series, he wasn’t very well known.

Aside from his heartbreaking portrayal of Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Pattinson didn’t have many films under his belt.

The Twilight franchise was also a big unknown, with the filmmakers and actors alike having no idea what a smash-success it would become. For the first Twilight film, Pattinson walked away with $2 million, a large amount, but certainly not the highest in terms of A-list payout.

As the series became a huge success and earned a growing amount of revenue, so did Pattinson’s bank account. By the final two films of the five-film series, he earned $25 million, plus a percentage of the gross profits, for each of the Breaking Dawn films.

In total, the franchise earned $3.3 billion worldwide, so his high salary more than paid for itself.

Pattinson also earned over a million in pay from another book-turned-film, Water for Elephants, starring alongside Reese Witherspoon. Now Pattinson is living the high life, telling Jimmy Kimmel, “I’m like super bougie now. I’m actually getting my curtains rehemmed.”

Robert Pattinson is set to play Batman

Fresh off of the Twilight films, Pattinson expressed that he had little desire to portray a superhero. In an interview with Howard Stern in 2017, Stern asked, “Have you ever been asked to be one of these superheroes or anything like that?”

Pattinson replied, “Not a superhero. I’ve never actually auditioned for one… for one thing, you have to sign up to do eight movies, and I just got out of five, so eight is just a lot.”

That would all change in 2019 when he was officially cast for the latest iteration of Batman, in a film simply titled The Batman. It is currently in filming, directed by Matt Reeves (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), and set to be released in 2021.

Pattinson’s contract isn’t for eight movies, as he originally feared. In fact, he isn’t sure what will come after the first film wraps telling Variety, “I don’t know anything. I’ve got an idea of how to do about four scenes, and then I’m working on the rest gradually.”

What else has Robert Pattinson worked on?

Pattinson has a love for complex characters, and often those roles are found in smaller indie films. Among some of his lesser-known roles are famed painter Salvador Dalí in Little Ashes, photographer Dennis Stock in Life, and Wild West pioneer Samuel Alabaster in Damsel.

One of his most recent indie flicks, The Lighthouse, showcased Pattinson’s skill for acting in darker roles but caused quite a stir for its graphic content. It also garnered him a few award nominations from several local critic associations and the Film Independent Spirit Awards.

In addition to acting, he is also a singer and musician. He plays guitar and piano and has recorded songs for six different film soundtracks, including two original songs he wrote for Twilight.

With his continued success in acting and performing and his upcoming role as Batman, he may soon have the distance from his time as Edward Cullen — and ever-growing net worth — that he desires.
