Zoë Kravitz’s early life

Kravitz was born on Dec. 1, 1988, in Los Angeles. Her parents are Cosby Show actor Lisa Bonet and musician Lenny Kravitz.

After the two split in the early 90s, Kravitz lived primarily with her mom since her dad was often on the road working, she told Rolling Stone. But when she was 11, she moved with him to Miami.

“That was a massive change,” she told the outlet about the move. “Going from this really quiet house in Topanga, just me and my mom, to my dad’s life, which was very busy — lots of people, lots of assistants.”

Still, Kravitz tried to make her childhood as normal as possible. “All I wanted to do was to fit in and be as normal as possible,” she told The South China Morning Post.

As she grew older, Zoë Kravitz became interested in the arts

Growing up, Kravitz showed a predilection for music. Bonet recalled to Rolling Stone that Kravitz would often sit at home reciting lyrics of her favorite artists — from Green Day to No Doubt. But by the time she was a teenager, she was leaning more toward acting.

Bonet, wanting Kravitz to enjoy her childhood, forbade her from acting professionally in high school. But with her dad’s help, she got her first agent at 15. “I thought she’d been exposed to so much of this world that there wasn’t too much talking to be done,” Lenny explained to Rolling Stone. “I trusted her and thought she was prepared to handle herself gracefully.”
