The romance of Jim and Pam (portrayed by John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer) on NBC’s hit comedy The Office lives in infamy as one of television’s most idyllic relationships. The chemistry between the two leapt off the screen each week, starting from flirtation to courtship to marriage and children.

Fischer commented in 2016 that the feelings seen onscreen from the two actors weren’t necessarily an act, though Krasinski has a different recollection.

Fischer’s remarks

On Bravo TV’s Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen back in 2016, Fischer appeared on the show and discussed the iconic sitcom, as well as the infamous Jim-and-Pam coupledom.

“John and I have real chemistry,” Fischer said of her former co-star, according to the Los Angeles Times. “There’s like a real part of me that is Pam and a real part of him that’s Jim. And those parts of us were genuinely in love with one another.”

She clarified her statement, revealing that they are actually very different from each other off camera. “In real life, we aren’t totally Pam and totally Jim. So in real life, we’re not like the perfect match,” Fischer said.

The alum of The Office shared that she will always feel a special connection to Krasinski due to their time together and their onscreen personas. “It’s a really complicated thing. He was like a type of spouse that I had for a long time,” she said. “He was my partner and we will always be close because of it.”

Krasinski’s take

The remarks from Fischer had Office fans reeling, attempting to read deeper into the pair’s scripted magic on the show’s reruns. When Fischer’s comments made headlines, Krasinski felt that his former Office mate’s words were misinterpreted.

“I think that was wildly misquoted or taken out of context,” Krasinski told the Daily Beast in 2017. “I’m sure she was trying to say something nice about how genuine the acting relationship was, of bringing a relationship that became that popular onscreen—and I think we both feel it’s such an honor to be a part of that relationship.”

The actor added that he had empathy for Fischer on her words being distorted. “As far as how she was quoted about saying we were ‘genuinely in love,’ I think that was taken wildly out of context and I feel bad for her,” he said.

Found true love – separately

While Jim and Pam will forever be in the hearts of diehard Office fans, the pairing will apparently stay in rerun history and go no further. Ironically, Fischer and Krasinski both got married (to other people) in July 2010 – Fischer to writer-director Lee Kirk, and Krasinski to actress Emily Blunt.

The Office actor met Blunt in 2008 and has been smitten ever since. When it comes to singing his wife’s praises, Krasinski doesn’t hold back. “I’ll be really honest with you, I was never the coolest kid on the block, so I never had the ‘good ol’ days’ of a playboy type of lifestyle,” he said. “My good ol’ days were entirely different. So for me, the best days of my life started when I met my wife—that’s the truth, it’s not just me saying it because it sounds nice on a card. She’s one of the coolest people, she’s so talented, she’s beautiful, and she’s certainly out of my league.”

The actor-turned-director isn’t shy about expressing his gratitude for finding his soul mate. “All of a sudden all of the things I loved, I got to find someone who loved that about me. There was a lot of my life that she hadn’t experienced and a lot of her life that I hadn’t experienced, so all of a sudden we got to start doing things that we liked.” Krasinski shared. “When you’re lucky enough to meet your one person then life takes a turn for the best. It can’t get better than that.”

Though Office fans will have to be content with seeing their favorite couple on whatever streaming service offers the show, they can take comfort in the fact that both ‘Jim’ and ‘Pam’ found their true loves in real life!
