Chris Trousdale got into the entertainment business early on. The Port Richey, Florida native got his start in Broadway at 8 years old touring for Les Miserables with fellow Disney star, Ashley Tisdale.

By 10, Trousdale moved to New York City where he joined forces with Glee‘s Lea Michele as well as The Broadway Kids. From there, the young actor strengthened his acting chops via productions such as Wizard of Oz, and more.

In 1999, Trousdale, along with four other members (including Jesse McCartney), formed the boy band, Dream Street. The group’s self-titled debut album hit #1 on Billboard’s Independent Albums chart and sold a million copies. The band, however, broke up three years later.

Trousdale continued with a solo recording career, landing singles on Radio Disney and acting in multiple projects like Austin & Ally, Days of Our Lives, and Shake It Up, to name a few. In his most recent project, New York Christmas Wedding, Trousdale played a wedding singer opposite Chris Noth.

In 2012, Trousdale appeared on NBC’s The Voice. He auditioned for judges Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera, and Adam Levine.

“It’s kind of hard to go from all that success and doing what you love every day, to doing absolutely nothing,” he said at the time, referring to the time he took off to care for his ailing mother.

Trousdale didn’t get through the audition but continued releasing his own music with his latest out in the summer of 2019.

Trousdale died at the age of 34

On June 3, multiple reports — including Trousdale’s Instagram page via his manager, Amanda Stephan — confirmed the star died.

“It is with a heavy heart that we confirm the passing of Chris Trousdale on June 2, 2020, from an undisclosed illness,” Stephan wrote. “He was a light to so many and will be missed dearly by his family, friends, and fans all over the world. Although it felt like he belonged to us all, the family is requesting that you respect their privacy at this time of grieving. Should you wish to make a donation in his honor, please give to ASPCA.”

Former bandmate, McCartney, took to Instagram to post in honor of Trousdale, alluding to how the young star died. However, the statements haven’t been confirmed by Trousdale’s reps.

“It pains me to say that an old friend, Chris Trousdale, from my early days in the music industry has passed away due to complications from COVID-19,” he wrote.

“Chris, in my opinion, was the most popular among us, who had a way of drawing every eye to what he was doing on stage. As an incredibly trained dancer, he would pick up an entire dance number in a matter of minutes; something that would take the rest of us days. I truly envied him as a performer.”
