When Blake Lively and Leonardo DiCaprio Dated, Their Relationship Involved Dolls

Actors Blake Lively and Leonardo DiCaprio dated for five months back in 2011. While their relationship was short-lived, it was filled with fun outings, traveling, and, oddly enough, dolls. It also influenced Lively’s part of Serena in Gossip Girl.

Lively and DiCaprio were first spotted together just after the Wolf of Wallstreet actor had split from his longtime girlfriend, model Bar Refaeli. They were seen together on a yacht in Cannes. A week later, the new couple was seen walking together in Portofino, Italy.

Shortly after Lively and DiCaprio returned from their travels, they went to Disneyland together. According to E! News, they entered the park through a private entrance and discreetly enjoyed rides that were closed to the public.

In July and August, the handsome couple was seen shopping together at a boutique in Santa Barbara and spending time in New York City, where they were spotted taking a romantic bike ride.

At the end of August, Lively and DiCaprio were seen spending time together in public one more time. Lively flew to Sydney, Australia to visit DiCaprio while he was working. There, they toured the Featherdale Wildlife Park where they got to spend some time with koalas and dingos.

Gossip Girl executive producer Joshua Safran spoke to Vanity Fair back in 2017 about Lively’s relationship with DiCaprio. They were filming the show in Los Angeles at the time and Safran said the Serena actor’s real-life relationship with DiCaprio couldn’t help but influence the show.

“We learned a lot from Blake,” Safran said. “When I think about shooting the L.A. episodes, Blake was dating [DiCaprio] at the time, and she had this thing where she had a doll that she took photos of that she sent to Leo. Blake was way ahead of the curve. It was pre-Instagram. She was documenting her life in photographs in a way that people were not yet doing.”

In October 2011, rumors started to pop up that Lively and DiCaprio had split. Right around that time, the Gossip Girl actor began spending time with Ryan Reynolds in Boston. A source told E! News that they’d split because of “distance and timing.”

Today, Lively is married to Reynolds and DiCaprio is dating Camila Morrone.
