When Does BTS’ Next Album, ‘Map of the Soul: 7’ Drop?

The tracklist is officially out there, fellow army. BTS fans are closer than ever to the second album from the Map of the Soul era, this one dotted with shades of sky blue and navy. What is the premiere date of BTS’ latest album, Map of the Soul: 7? Here’s what we know about the upcoming music from this K-pop group.

BTS will release their first album of 2020, entitled ‘Map of the Soul: 7’

With the success of BTS’ bubblegum pink pop era, some BTS fans wondered what would be next for this K-pop group. Now, we finally have an answer. At the start of the new decade, BTS announced they would be releasing the second album of the Map of the Soul series, entitled Map of the Soul: 7.

Complete with shades of sky blue and a few music videos already available for binge-watching, this era touches on some new territory for this seven-member group. During one interview with Zach Sang, the boy band elaborated on the messages, symbols, and themes of this upcoming album.

“One message that penetrates the album as a whole is that you must face your inner shadows, but resist becoming submerged into its depths,” Suga said in Korean, with an English translation in the video clip. “You must face it and move on forward.”

A few songs off of his album are already available for BTS fans, including ‘Black Swan,’ ‘Outro: Ego,’ and ‘Interlude: Shadow’

Fans got their first glimpse into Map of the Soul: 7 with the first song released, Suga’s song, “Interlude: Shadow.” The first song from this album featuring each of the members, “Black Swan,” premiered in the United States on Jan. 17, 2020. The group later appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden to perform this song live, premiering their unique choreography.

The third song released from the album was J-Hope’s “Outro: Ego.” Each music video, in turn, earned millions of plays on YouTube, jumping to one of the top trending spots on this platform. However, the only song available for streaming on Spotify from Map of the Soul: 7 is “Black Swan.” So far, anyway.

Recently, the group announced the tracklist for Map of the Soul: 7, surprising fans with featured artists like Sia and Halsey. Troye Sivan tweeted that he had a hand in writing some of the music for this K-pop group, as well.

When does ‘Map of the Soul: 7’ premiere?

It’s been over a month since this boy band first announced their upcoming album. Since then, they’ve performed with Lil Nas X at the Grammy’s, becoming the first Korean artists to sing at the award show. They supported a few “Connect, BTS” art exhibits across multiple cities for fans to enjoy. The K-pop group also broke personal records for the number of presold albums.

After much anticipation, Map of the Soul: 7 premieres on Feb. 21, 2020. Until then, fans can stream other BTS albums, including Map of the Soul: Persona, on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and iHeartRadio.
