Between the alternate universes, superpowers, magic, and another serial killer on the loose, Riverdale Season 6 might be the CW teen drama’s wildest season yet. However, it must come to an end eventually. After a brief hiatus this week, Riverdale Season 6 will wind down with a few more episodes — here’s what to expect.

When does ‘Riverdale’ return for season 6 episode 18?

Many Riverdale fans felt disappointed to see that the CW did not have a new episode on Sunday, June 19. It seems the network has taken on an every-other-week approach to stretch out the season, since episode 17 arrived on June 12 after another week off. Thankfully, viewers can expect Riverdale to return to their TV screens on Sunday, June 26.

Here’s the synopsis for season 6 episode 18, per IMDb:

“As the gang plan an event celebrating two of their own, strange biblical plaques around town threaten to put a damper on the special day.”

While that description is a bit cryptic, the trailer for the new episode (seen below) teases some of the chaos. The clip includes a voiceover of Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) describing “another plague” with “rivers running blood red, and flies, and frogs.” Meanwhile, a stranger with all-white eyes appears in Jughead Jones’ (Cole Sprouse) bedroom. There are also brief scenes of Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) bringing down a hammer, Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) screaming her head off, and Betty enlisting help from Kevin Keller (Casey Cott). It looks like the town is in for another wild ride.

How many episodes are in ‘Riverdale’ Season 6?

As What’s On Netflix notes, Riverdale Season 6 is expected to have 22 episodes in total. The schedule for the remaining five episodes hasn’t been shared yet. However, provided there are no more hiatuses, it could look something like this:

  • June 26: Episode 18
  • July 3: Ep. 19
  • July 10: Ep. 20
  • July 17: Ep. 21
  • July 24: Ep. 22

Synopses for these episodes will be shared at later dates.

There are only a handful of episodes left, but the season is definitely not slowing down. Instead, the last few episodes will take big strides to prepare for season 7, which will mark the end of the series. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa shared that Riverdale’s cancellation announcement informed the show’s decision to end season 6 with a bang.

“I will say, the confirmation came as we were plotting literally the last episode of the season. And we were weighing a very big swing for the end of the season and into season 7,” he said. “And when [the news] came down, it was like, ‘We’re doing this.’ So it was really good timing and I think it emboldened us to run into this wild choice quite happily.”

Riverdale Season 6 airs new episodes on Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on the CW.
