Hot off the heels of “Black Parade,” Beyoncé is releasing another inspiring body of work for fans to enjoy. This one, however, is created in conjunction with Disney’s The Lion King and her award-winning album, The Lion King: The Gift. Here’s what we know about Black is King, its premiere date, and where to stream it.

In conjunction with Disney’s ‘The Lion King,’ Beyoncé created, ‘The Lion King: The Gift’

She’s not as a singer. Beyoncé recently appeared as Adult Nala in Disney’s photo-real adaptation of The Lion King, alongside performers like Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, and James Earl Jones. In true Beyoncé fashion, the artist took her involvement one step further by curating, producing, and performing the album, The Lion King: The Gift.

This album told the story of Disney’s animated movie, featuring clips from the 2019 reboot. Now, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter is creating a visual album, titled Black is King.

Beyoncé is creating another visual album, titled ‘Black is King’

In conjunction with her work with The Lion King and her advocacy for the Black community, Beyoncé announced that she’s creating another visual album. This one, reportedly, features the music of The Lion King: The Gift, including “Spirit” and “Brown Skin Girl.”

Black Is King is a celebratory memoir for the world on the Black experience,” Disney and Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment said in announcing the visual album, according to Variety. “The film is a story for the ages that informs and rebuilds the present. A reunion of cultures and shared generational beliefs. A story of how the people left most broken have an extraordinary gift and a purposeful future.”

This wouldn’t be the first time Beyoncé dropped a visual album for fans, as Lemonade became one of her best-known albums. This would, however, be the first time that one of her visual albums would premiere on Disney’s streaming platform, Disney+

‘Black is King’ will only be available for streaming on Disney+

Because this visual album is created in conjunction with The Lion King and The Lion King: The Gift, it will, presumably, only be available for streaming on Disney’s platform. This news comes just days after Beyoncé’s surprise single, “Black Parade,” which also celebrates Black culture and communities.

“These timeless lessons are revealed and reflected through Black voices of today, now sitting in their own power,” according to the announcement for the visual album. “Black Is King is an affirmation of a grand purpose, with lush visuals that celebrate Black resilience and culture. The film highlights the beauty of tradition and Black excellence.”

Black is King debuts on this streaming platform on July 31, just a few weeks following the premiere of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton. Until then, fans can watch the 2019 adaptation of The Lion King on Disney+. To learn more about Disney+ and to subscribe, visit their website.
