Netflix announces ‘Outlander’ Seasons 1 and 2

Netflix just confirmed the exciting news that Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) are coming to its streaming platform at the end of May. Fans will be able to binge watch to their heart’s content starting on May 27.

With the new season not expected to premiere until this coming fall, that should give fans plenty of time to get caught up on all of the great moments from the first two seasons.

For the past four years, seasons of Outlander have only been available through STARZ. This marks the first time that the show will be available on Netflix, though it is unclear if other streaming services will also be releasing the series in the near future. The announcement comes while filming for Season 5 of Outlander is currently underway in Scotland.

When will Netflix release Seasons 3 and 4

While it is great that the first two seasons of Outlander are available, fans also want to know when Netflix will release the last two seasons. Unfortunately, the streaming giant has not announced its plan to air Seasons 2 and 3, though they are expected to release them eventually.

It is possible that Netflix is waiting to see how popular the first two seasons are before they purchase anymore. Given how the series has a massive fan following, we are confident the series will be a major hit for the company.

According to Fansided, Netflix could also release Seasons 3 and 4 just prior to the premiere of Season 5. That way, fans can catch up on the show on Netflix and then head over to Starz to watch the most recent season. The two companies could continue to follow this format ahead of Season 6 and so on. If they take this approach, then both Netflix and Starz will benefit from the partnership while reaching a much larger audience.

How long will ‘Outlander’ last?

With the series headed to Netflix, fans are also wondering how long Starz will produce the beloved show. Outlander is based on the novels from Diana Gabaldon, who is currently working on the 9th book in the series.

Gabaldon has previously confirmed that she plans to write 10 books before calling it quits. If Gabaldon stops at book 10, then the show will have plenty of material to last several more years, especially if they keep adapting one season per novel.

One of the show’s main leads, Sam Heughan, has also expressed an interest in continuing with the series until the book material is fully adapted. The actor recently took to social media with the comment, “Long may it reign.”

Heughan and his co-star, Caitriona Balfe, are also working as executive producers in Season 5, which also increases the likelihood that they will stick with it for the foreseeable future.

Where else can you watch ‘Outlander’?

Aside from Netflix and Starz, fans can also watch Outlander via iTunes and Google Play. iTunes has all four seasons of the show available for purchase while Google has the first three seasons. Fans can access Starz through Amazon Prime or Hulu, both of which offer an add-on for the network. Starz also has its own streaming app available online.

Outlander follows the story of Claire, a nurse from the 1940s who travels back in time to the 18th century. In the 1700s, Claire meets and later falls in love with Jamie Fraser, who is a wounded soldier when they first encounter each other. The two experience a wide range of adventures together, eventually finding themselves in the New World on the brink of the American Revolution.

Fans will be able to stream the first two seasons of Outlander starting May 27 on Netflix.
