If you’ve seen Netflix’s makeover show Queer Eye, you’ll recognize Tan France as the series’ fashion expert. Although all of the members of the Fab Five are good friends, some are clearly closer than others. Recently, France revealed which of his fellow Queer Eye cast members he thinks is the nicest.

Tan France stalks the Instagrams of the ‘Queer Eye’ cast

In 2018, France appeared in a video for Elle magazine titled “Queer Eye’s Tan France Insta-Stalks The Fab Five.” In it, France scrolled through his cast members’ Instagram posts, commenting on the photos.

France is happily married to his husband Rob France, and, as he explained, isn’t interested in anyone from Queer Eye. However, if he were to pick one of the Fab Five, he did admit who it would be.

“If I were to go for any of them, Jonathan would be my guy,” France admitted. His first few reasons were mostly based on appearance.

“The reason is, I do think he’s very attractive,” he said. “I think he’s the most photogenic of all of us, any of us.” However, it’s Van Ness’s personality that has really made a difference in France’s life.

France also revealed in the video that he was jealous of Van Ness for making bold clothing choices.

“Jonathan is a risk-taker,” France said. “Jonathan wears stuff that I wish I had the confidence to wear.” Even France, the style guru himself, is envious of what Van Ness can pull off.

“Of all the people I’m most jealous of,” France said. “it’s Jonathan.” He says the Queer Eye hairstylist has the confidence to do things France simply doesn’t.

“I can criticize in no way because he has the balls to do stuff that I only wish I had,” France said. But it’s mainly about the kindness that exudes from Van Ness.

“He’s got a heart of gold,” France said. “He’s truly the nicest person I’ve ever met in my life.”

France admitted he didn’t think Van Ness could be friends when they met at ‘Queer Eye’ casting

However, Van Ness and France didn’t hit it off from the start.

In an interview with Terry Gross on NPR’s Fresh Air, France spilled what it was like to meet Van Ness. In a word, he was “shocked.” Apparently, Van Ness started sharing intimate details about his sex life right off the bat. This made France uncomfortable.

“I was quite prudish before meeting Jonathan,” France explained. The Queer Eye style expert was raised by Muslim parents in England. He calls this a “sheltered upbringing.”

“I can’t imagine ever speaking like this with anybody,” he remembered thinking when he met Van Ness. However, France admitted that his Queer Eye castmates pushed his boundaries, and he told Gross that “the parts that have been pushed are for the better.”

“Being around Jonathan Van Ness has changed my boundaries,” he admitted. Although France says he was “guarded” before, he is no longer.

“I love that side of me now,” he gushed. And France has one of the nicest people in the world, Jonathan Van Ness, to thank.
