It’s been over a decade since the infamous breakup of Prince William and Kate Middleton, but it was so tragic to royal family followers that people are still talking about it. When many fans were gearing up for a royal wedding announcement in 2007 – after all, the young couple seemed beyond perfect for each other – they were shocked by a break up instead. Prince William and Kate publicly ended their high-profile four-year relationship in early 2007.

During those months apart, both Will and Kate were spotted partying solo at a variety of different venues. They may have been smiling on the outside, but we now know that underneath they were missing one another. Still, the question comes to mind: Did Prince William date anyone else while they were broken up?

Why did Prince William and Kate Middleton break up?

There’s no one reason the famous couple called it quits in 2007. Sources speculate it’s because of pressure from the media toward marriage – they were so young, and the constant scrutiny and being in the spotlight put serious strain on their relationship.

The media had begun calling Kate, “The Next People’s Princess,” comparing her to the late Princess Diana. But the couple wasn’t quite ready to make a permanent commitment and all the pressure eventually got to Prince William. Apparently, the Duke of Cambridge broke it off over the phone after he had started having doubts about their future together. He allegedly said, “I can’t… It just isn’t going to work. It isn’t fair to you.”

What happened when Prince William and Kate Middleton broke up?

Both Prince William and Kate handled the breakup in different ways. He returned to the military barracks, where he had been spending more time leading up to their split anyway. Meanwhile, Kate traded in her demure fashions for low cut tops and short skirts.

Kate began exploring the London club scene and was caught on camera spending quality time with “a handsome heir to a British shipping fortune.” If she wanted to get her ex’s attention – it worked.

Who did Prince William date when they broke up?

But it wasn’t just Kate exploring other options. Prince William was spotted partying with several different women leading up to the breakup – which was probably a contributing factor. Once the breakup became official, things got even wilder. There’s a photo of Prince William at a nightclub in Bornemouth cupping the breast of Brazilian beauty Ana Ferreira. A second clubgoer claims that she also exchanged flirty words with the drunk Prince.

But even if he did let loose in the wake of the break up, Prince William did not date anyone seriously during the months he was apart from Kate Middleton. Friends of the couple say they were in contact shortly after the split and eventually, those conversations led to reconciliation.

When did Prince William and Kate Middleton get back together?

The heart wants what it wants. After just a few months of being separated, the pair decided they couldn’t live without one another. With time and perspective, they both admitted that the time they spent apart made them stronger.

Kate explains: “At the time I wasn’t very happy about it, but it actually made me a stronger person. You find out things about yourself that maybe you hadn’t realized. I think you can get quite consumed by a relationship when you are younger, and I really valued that time for me as well although I didn’t think it at the time.”

They got back together, got married, and lived happily ever after. Isn’t that the only thing that matters?
