When you’re in love, you naturally might want to tell the world about it. Whether it’s on social media or in public, you sometimes can’t help but rant and rave to everyone about your better half and all that they do for you.

But some people aren’t as open about their relationships — people like, say, Tracee Ellis Ross. It might make you wonder who the actress has dated.

A look at Ross’ love life

You probably see Ross all the time, whether it’s on a promotional appearance for her hit TV show, Black-ish, or red carpet events like the Met Gala. But you might not remember seeing anyone on her arm throughout her decades-long career — and that’s apparently for a reason.

She told ABC News in a February 2017 interview that she sometimes likes to keep her romances private, as she was born into a “very public family.”

“I was born into a very public family and so I gained a relationship for myself to what is important … [and] what is sacred in my life,” Ross told the outlet.

“I don’t make a decision [that] ‘I will never talk about my relationships’ or anything like that,” she continued. “That’s certainly not a decision that I’ve made or anything like that, but there are certain things that are sacred to me that are not for public consumption. They are mine.”

But she’s had at least one known relationship

Ross once dated music executive Abou ‘Bu’ Thiam. Thiam is also singer Akon’s brother.

Ross made it clear to Uptown Magazine in 2012 that she did not intend on discussing their relationship, saying, “I am not talking about it.”

“When you do that, you invite other people and their opinions and issues in,” she continued (via The Jasmine Brand). “You can’t discover the person on your own.”

So, of course, she did not comment on the end of their relationship. But Thiam told The Breakfast Club in 2016 that despite their separation, they still had a “genuine, unconditional relationship.”

“Yeah, I was in love for sho.’… Me and Tracee gon’ be lovers forever, man,” he told the hosts. “You know what I’m saying? Like, I really do believe that. Me and her have this genuine, unconditional relationship. … And anybody that comes in my life, like, they have to know that and vice versa with her.”

When asked why they broke up, Thiam said, “I believe that being with somebody…it’s like managing…it’s a real job. It’s a real responsibility. … And she’s in a place in her career that if I can’t give her all of me, I don’t wanna waste- not…waste her time- but I don’t wanna put her in that space. … So why not give her the opportunity to find somebody else that can.”

He added, “By the way, I’mma be honest, out of all the females that I dated- and not to discredit all the other girls, because I’ve been with some good females in my life- but she has to be one of the most unconditional loving spirited, good people.”

His comments on Ross begin around the 8:06 mark.

Is Ross single?

It seems like she is single — and she’s embracing it.

She let Glamour know in 2018 that while she’s in her 40s, unmarried, and childless, she’s killing it in a bunch of other ways.

“I’m a good friend, a solid daughter, a hard worker, my credit is good, I take out the garbage before it gets smelly, I recycle, and I won a Golden Globe!” she exclaimed.

When she does begin to date someone (if she’s not already), it seems likely that fans won’t hear about it. However, they can watch her and her on-screen hubby, Anthony Anderson, on Black-ish as much as they want.
