Floyd Mayweather’s world was turned upside down when it was reported on March 11 that his ex-girlfriend Josie Harris had died. Of all his romances, his relationship with Harris appears to be the longest and produced most of his children. But we didn’t exactly hear much about her throughout her life and time with the boxing champion. So who is Harris exactly and what was her relationship with Mayweather like?

Josie Harris’ life and relationship with Floyd Mayweather

Reports say that Harris was born on Jan. 17, 1980 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She previously told USA Today that she met Mayweather when she was 17 and began a relationship with him some time in the ’90s.

Harris went on to give birth to three of Mayweather’s four children: sons Koraun and Zion, and daughter, Jirah. While she dedicated her life to her kids, Harris had dreams of becoming an actress. HollywoodLife reports that she had a couple of bit roles in productions such as Starter Wives Confidential and Good Day L.A.

Josie Harris had a rocky romance with Floyd Mayweather

While it might sound like something straight out of a fairytale, their relationship was anything but. USA Today described their romance as “tempestuous,” noting that the couple often broke up. It did not share why, but Harris alleged that domestic violence was a big factor in their relationship.

She claimed that Mayweather had physically assaulted her at least six times throughout their relationship. The “worst” time happened in 2010 when Mayweather allegedly entered her home and assaulted her in front of their children.

Although they had separated earlier that year, Mayweather was allegedly enraged that Harris had started seeing someone else and attacked her in a jealous rage. Police arrested him after Koraun flagged down a security guard and told them that his mother was allegedly being attacked by the boxing star.

Mayweather received a 90-day sentence for domestic violence as a result of the ordeal, but he has repeatedly denied that anything serious happened that evening. He told Katie Couric in a later interview that he had simply been restraining Harris because she was on drugs.

Harris denied those claims and then launched a $20 million lawsuit against Mayweather in 2015 for defamation, per The Blast. The two were set to face off in court over the matter in December 2020, but Harris died before things were hashed out.

Josie Harris’ death

On the evening of March 10, Harris was found dead at her home in Valencia, California, according to TMZ. Law enforcement sources told the outlet that they were dispatched to the home late that evening. Upon arrival, they found Harris unresponsive in her car and pronounced her dead at the scene.

While the cause of Harris’ death is still under investigation, sources told the outlet that foul play is not suspected. TMZ pointed out that the case “is being treated as a death investigation as opposed to a homicide probe.”

At the time of her death, Harris was just 40 years old.

Floyd Mayweather has been honoring Josie Harris

Following a couple of days of public silence, Mayweather spoke out on March 13 and posted a tribute to Harris on Instagram. He shared several throwback photos of them, remembering Harris as his “heart,” “angel,” “love,” “family,” and “rock.”

Their children have also spoken out, sharing tributes on their respective Instagram accounts following the news of Harris’ death.

It is truly a tough time for lots of people, and we send them our condolences.
