Mere weeks after outfielder Bryce Harper signed the largest contract in baseball history, another outfielder topped that list and dwarfed the amount Harper received from the Philadelphia Phillies.

Reports surfaced on March 19, 2019, that Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout was signing a 12-year extension worth $430 million. Yes, you read that correctly. That deal is for $100 million more than Harper’s and one less year. It also comes just days after the former Nationals star said he was going to recruit Trout, a New Jersey native, to play with him in Philly once his contract with the Angels was up in 2020. That won’t be happening now.

After news of Trout’s mega-deal broke, curious fans had all different questions about the man widely considered the best player in baseball and who his wife is. Here are a few facts about Jessica Cox including how long she’s been married to the MLB star and the tragic loss they recently went through together.

How long they’ve known each other

Trout and Cox have actually known one another since they were teenagers. They grew up in the same town in the Garden State and attended Millville Senior High School together.

The two dated for several years and on June 28, 2016, Trout proposed by telling Cox to look up at the sky. There, a plane had written the words “Will you marry me Jess?”

The pair tied the knot in December 2017.

Cox is a teacher in New Jersey

Cox earned her degree in education from Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pennsylvania, and today works as a teacher.

She spends her summer break cheering and watching her husband play baseball.

Cox and Trout suffered a tragic loss in 2018

Tragedy struck on Aug. 15, 2018, when Cox’s brother, Aaron, passed away. He was 24.

Aaron played for three season in the Angels minor league system before deciding to retire on Aug. 6, two days before his death.

The Angles released a statement following the news which said that the organization was “saddened to hear of the passing of Aaron Cox, a member of the Angels family since 2015. We are deeply heartbroken and shocked by this tragic loss. Our heartfelt prayers and condolences to his family and friends. Aaron will always have a special place in the hearts of those within the organization.”

After his death, Trout posted an emotional tribute to his brother-in-law and called Aaron his “best friend.”

The couple loves dogs and charity events

Trout and his wife are dog lovers. The couple has an American Eskimo Dog named Juno, who regularly appears on Cox’s Instagram.

The pair also loves giving back and are passionate about their charity work.

Cox participates in the Angels Wives charity events including “Fill the Boot,” which raises money for local fire departments in the L.A. area. She also has taken part in the “Golden Ball,” a charity that raises funds for the Special Olympics of Southern California.
