After eight years of dating, Swedish YouTube star PewDiePie tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend Marzia Bisognin — now Kjellberg. The two met online after Marzia discovered PewDiePie’s channel through her friend Daizo, who had recommended that she watch “this idiot playing video games.” The two officially began dating in 2011 after Marzia contacted PewDiePie via e-mail. And the rest was Internet history.
PewDiePie, whose real name is Felix Kjellberg, is known for his zany, and sometimes controversial, YouTube antics and “Let’s Play” video series. Here’s what we know about his wife Marzia Kjellberg.
Who is Marzia?
Marzia Kjellberg was born in Arzignano, Italy on Oct. 21, 1992. In 2012, Marzia created her YouTube channel CutiePieMarzia. Her channel was centered around beauty, fashion, video games, and traveling with Felix. Marzia’s channel went on to become the most subscribed Italian YouTube channel and one of the most popular channels within the beauty and makeup genre. The Wall Street Journal reported that CutiePieMarzia attracted 16 million viewers each month.
In October 2018, Marzia made an announcement on her channel that she would be retiring from YouTube. In the video, she says that her YouTube career was beginning to have a negative effect on her mental health. “After a few months, I realized it was because I had allowed myself to be completely cut off from the world. I wasn’t seeking any friendships and I was just finding comfort from my own little bubble on YouTube…if you allow it to take over your life, I think it’s not healthy,” Marzia said in the video.
Outside of creating her own content, Marzia has been a voice actress in several different web series. She voiced characters in Oscar’s Hotel for Fantastical Creatures and a six-episode series called Pugatory, based off of her pet pug, Maya.
Marzia’s fashion career
Thanks to the success of her YouTube channel, Marzia was able to launch her own career in fashion in 2015. She has launched several different types of fashion lines, including clothing, home decor, and nail polish. In July 2018, Marzia created Maì, a brand that’s centered around pottery, jewelry, and other home decor. The ceramics are created by Marzia herself. Felix and Marzia also manage a unisex clothing and homeware retailer called Tsuki Market together.
Aside from her career in vlogging and fashion, Marzia has also pursued a career in writing. She published a young adult fantasy-horror novel called Dream House: A Novel by CutiePieMarzia. The thriller novel revolves around a girl who thinks that she may have found her dream house, but quickly discovers that she has actually stepped into a nightmare.
Felix and Marzia Kjellberg
On Aug. 20, 2019, Felix and Marzia Kjellberg announced their marriage. The ceremony took place in Kew Gardens in west London. On Instagram, Marzia wrote:
Yesterday, the 19th of August – after exactly 8 years since we met – we celebrated our wedding with our closest friends and family. It was the most beautiful day, which I will treasure forever. I am so thankful for all the people that made time to attend the event and helped us celebrate our marriage. I feel like I’m the luckiest person and I’m so full of love. Incredibly ecstatic to be able to call Felix my husband for the rest of our lives.
The two settled in Brighton, England where they currently live with their two dogs Edgar and Maya, and a hedgehog named Dogy.
