Reboots are everywhere on streaming services of late, and that’s quite all right. Viewers love to see new stories with old favorite characters, or see what they’ve gotten up to since the show’s last airing. Whether it’s a true reboot, or a continuation, viewers want to see new things in familiar settings. Sex and the City‘s reboot, And Just Like That… will premiere on HBO Max. And many fans have wondered: Who is playing Brady Hobbes in the Sex and the City reboot?

There has been no announcement for the air date yet, but production did begin in January 2021, so hopefully that means we’ll see it soon. Sex and the City ran for six seasons from 1998 to 2004, following the life of Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker.) As a romantic comedy-drama, Sex and the City gained a large following, despite mixed reviews from critics. And Just Like That… continues the story, focusing on both original cast and new characters.

Niall Cunningham has been cast to play the son of Miranda Hobbes; Cuninngham is 26 years old and has been seen before in Curb Your Enthusiasm and Life in Pieces. Miranda was a close friend to the main character, Carrie Bradshaw, and often served as a voice of reason. She was a Harvard-educated lawyer with a cynical point of view and a general distrust of humanity and men in general. Eventually, she started dating a bartender, Steve Brady, and they went on to have a son. We don’t know much about Brady Hobbes, except that he is dating Luisa Torres, played by Cree Cicchino.

Charlotte’s children also appear in the reboot

Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) was a main character in the original Sex and the City. She was somewhat naive and a romantic at heart who wanted nothing more than to get married and have a family. Unfortunately, all her efforts culminated in divorce late in the show, along with struggles with infertility. By the end of the show, and the follow-up movie, Charlotte had married Harry Goldenblatt, adopted one child, and naturally conceived another.

Lily was adopted, and will be played by Cathy Ang. Alexa Swinton has been cast as her younger sister, Rose.

Alexa Swinton is only 12 years old, and so Rose Goldenblatt will be one of the youngest cast members. She carries a large legacy, though, as the daughter of one of the main cast. Swinton does have some acting credits under her belt, though. She was recently seen in M. Night Shyamalan’s newest movie, Old. She has also starred in Billions, which can be streamed on Showtime.

There’s not much information out there about the reboot. And Just Like That… is less a reboot and more a continuation, in that it focuses on the lives of the original cast and the next generation. Filming has been spotted in progress in New York City, and cast, both returning and new, has been announced. There has also been a teaser trailer released.

So far, there is no news of a release date, or of what the series might actually focus on. According to Vogue, we know that COVID-19 will be part of the story and that Carrie has divorced Mr. Big. We also know that many of the original cast will make an appearance, except for Kim Cattrall

Hopefully, a release date will be announced soon. When it does premiere, it will stream on HBO Max. And Just Like That… seems to be shaping up to have the same sort of off-beat romantic drama that the original had, and that should be a formula for success.
