WandaVision is done releasing new episodes, but Marvel fans were captivated with the show along the way. Along with giving them more of two characters they loved — Wanda Maximoff and Vision — it also introduced some new ones along the way.

One of those characters was Agatha Harkness. Agatha was a fan favorite for many reasons, one of which was her catchy theme song featured on the show. It begs the question: who wrote Agatha’s theme song, better known as “Agatha All Along?”

‘WandaVision’ is an alternate reality

WandaVision picked up with Wanda after the events of Avengers: Endgame. The first few episodes saw Wanda and Vision living within a different classic sitcom.

Each episode focused on a different era — starting in the ’50s and running up to the 2000s. Neither one seemed to fully understand why they were where they were.

Eventually, it’s revealed Wanda has created an alternate reality, including a recreation of Vision, who previously died in Avengers: Infinity War. She’s working through the various stages of grief.

The show was unlike anything else previously seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It started as a screwball comedy but moved into some serious dramatic territory as Wanda dealt with her immense loss.

It also set the stage for the next phase of the MCU. At the show’s conclusion, Wanda now understood her full power as a witch. Now she’s set to appear as a character in the Doctor Strange sequel, though she won’t resemble any version of the character fans knew before.

Agatha joins Wanda early as a friend and neighbor to her. She’s revealed to be a witch who wants to explore how Wanda has become so powerful, and what she’s doing to gain this much control over the town. Agatha was played by Kathryn Hahn.

What made Agatha so memorable was that early on, she served as comic relief. This was no problem for Hahn — the veteran actor has had hilarious roles in comedy films like Anchorman and Step Brothers.

Later, she emerges as a surprise, full-fledged villain. The show reveals that she was behind much of the trickery fooling Wanda. For example, Wanda’s brother Pietro seemingly returns from the dead, though he looks different from before. It turns out this was a man manipulated by one of Agatha’s spells.

In the episode where Agatha is revealed to be behind this deception, the show continues its stylistic choice to mimic classic sitcoms by introducing Agatha’s true identity with what sounds like an old sitcom jingle. This song is titled “Agatha All Along,” and it was certainly catchy.

Who wrote the ‘WandaVision’ song ‘Agatha All Along?’

No matter what viewers thought of Agatha’s character after her big reveal, one thing was for sure: everyone was left humming her song. The show debuted at the end of the episode. People on social media couldn’t stop discussing the song or how singable it was. It should come as no surprise then that the song came from the minds of two of Disney’s best songwriters.

According to the New York Times, the songwriting duo of Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez wrote “Agatha All Along.” If you don’t recognize their names, you likely recognize some of their work. The pair, who are married, also wrote songs for Disney smash hits Frozen and Coco.

According to Anderson-Lopez, they definitely used one legendary sitcom from a bygone era as inspiration:

“It’s got an ‘Addams Family’ twist with an electric harpsichord…It’s super-duper cool and feels like something you’d find in a haunted house.”

The MCU continues to put out hits, but it’s fair to say it may be awhile for they have a song as popular as “Agatha All Along” again.
