Here’s what we know about one of the writers behind “Boy With Luv.”

RM is the leader of BTS and often writes the lyrics their songs

While RM takes a leadership role in the group, each member has their hands in multiple different areas. Solo songs of the members, like V’s latest single, “Winter Bear” was written by the artist.

As the leader of BTS and as a talented musician, RM is often responsible for the music and lyrics of the boy band. He doesn’t do it alone, though. When it comes to the group’s streamable hit, “Boy With Luv,” there is another artist credited with writing the song off of Map of the Soul: Persona.

Melanie Fontana helped write BTS’ hit song, ‘Boy With Luv’

BTS premiered their song “Boy With Luv” featuring Halsey earlier in 2019. Less than a year later, the song earned hundreds of millions of streams on Spotify. The song’s colorful and vibrant music video performed just as well on YouTube. Within a few hours of its release, the music video for “Boy With Luv” was trending on YouTube. The video currently holds over 500 million plays on YouTube, making it one of the most-watched music videos of 2019.

“Boy With Luv” received multiple nominations at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. The group even performed at popular American award shows and talk shows. Melanie Fontana is behind multiple hits of BTS, including Jungkook’s solo song, ‘Euphoria’

“Boy With Luv” is not the first song Melanie Fontana helped write for the boy band. For the group’s album, Love Yourself: Answer, Melanie Fontana co-wrote Jungkook’s solo song, “Euphoria” with DJ Swivel and his partner, Candace Sosa. For the group’s latest album, Map of the Soul: Persona, Melanie Fontana has songwriting credits for “Boy With Luv” featuring Halsey and “Mikrokosmos.” During an interview with Refinery29, Melanie Fontana what makes a song distinctly BTS.

“I feel like it’s the really beautiful mixture of masculinity and femininity that they’re so unabashedly known for. They’re not afraid to use what some people would call more feminine-sounding melodies because they make it their own. I think that that’s what’s so sexy about them. They go for almost ethereal melodies that you wouldn’t necessarily write for a male boy band,” Melanie Fontana said.

BTS albums, including Map of the Soul: Persona, are available on Spotify, Apple Music, and most streaming platforms.

Edit: Melanie Fontana is not the exclusive writer of “Boy With Luv,” as BTS members RM, Suga, and J-Hope are also given credit as songwriters. According to BTS Fandom, other writers of this song include Ashley Frangipane (Halsey,) Pdogg, Michel “Lindgren” Schulz, “Hitman” Bang, and Emily Weisband.
