Chip and Joanna Gaines rose to fame several years ago as the stars of HGTV’s Fixer Upper. The couple, then, went on to establish a lifestyle brand that includes books, home products, and even a restaurant.

While their home design business is well-known, fans of the Gaines are also aware that they have quite a few children running around. In fact, Chip and Joanna have revealed that they have always wanted a big family and could be looking to expand their brood in the future.

Chip and Joanna got married in 2003, about ten years before the first episode of Fixer Upper premiered. The pair now has a family that is bigger than average. They have five children consisting of three boys and two girls: Drake (b. 2003), Ella (b. 2006), Duke (b. 2008), Emmie (b. 2010), and Crew (b. 2018).

The four oldest kids made a lot of appearances on Fixer Upper. Since the show ended in early 2018, fans have not gotten a chance to see Crew on their small screen yet, though he has appeared often on his parents’ Instagram pages.

Chip and Joanna Gaines are strict parents to their kids

Despite the fact that Chip and Joanna are now TV stars, you will not find them spoiling their children anytime soon.

For one thing, the family lives on a big farm in Texas, and Chip and Joanna make sure that their kids grow up knowing how to enjoy the outdoors and explore nature. In fact, the parents are very big on not letting technology take over their children’s lives.

In an interview with Southern Living, Joanna shared: “Our rule for the iPad is that the kids can use it a certain amount of time every other day. It’s contingent on them doing their chores and homework. I try hard to make it not the thing they look forward to every day. I don’t want them focusing on that.”

She revealed that, because of this, her children often end up being creative and inventing their own games instead of playing the ones online.

The Gaines kids also share a room with their siblings. Drake and Duke share one room, Ella and Emmie share one room, and Crew has a nursery. It teaches the whole family a lot about how to share things with each other while also maintaining their own individualism.

The household has a lot of rules as well. The children have age-appropriate chores that they all have to do. Additionally, they are not given phones until they go off to college.

Chip and Joanna Gaines love having a big family

Chip and Joanna seem to really enjoy having a big family, and the pair has made it known that they could see themselves having more kids in the future.

In May 2018, Joanna told People: “I joke with my friends that I’m going to be that 45-year-old who’s pregnant. Chip is such a kid at heart and we both love a big family. I’m open to whatever. I’m just having fun with it.”

In a recent interview with NBC, Chip shared that he “could see Crew having a little sibling.”

Joanna also expanded on her husband’s desire for an even larger family.

“When I’m 50, Chip’s gonna want more kids,” she joked. “Just know, this is gonna be the headline forever: Jo’s pregnant again. Chip with children is like business — there’s never too many. I’m like, ‘Chip I think we’ve got enough, I think we’re good!’ He’s like, ‘I just think we can keep having them!’ I think Chip just loves a full plate.”
