Emma Watson’s pixie cut happened after ‘Harry Potter’
Why did Watson want to cut her hair in the first place? According to the actor, she was in desperate need of a change.
“I’ve wanted to do it since I was about 16, and when Harry Potter ended in June, I just needed a change,” Watson told Marie Claire. “It was quite symbolic for me. It’s very short; it was buzzed at the back and on the sides. And it’s really liberating that I can walk out without thinking about it.”
In addition to being low-maintenance, cutting her hair was likely quite freeing for Watson. For the decade she was filming the Harry Potter movies, she was actually under contractual obligation not to alter her appearance. This meant she could not cut or color her hair. Considering that many people start experimenting with their hair in their teens, it makes sense that Watson did so as soon as she was legally able.
Who inspired the pixie cut?
In the interview with Collider, Watson confessed it was another actor who inspired her pixie cut. “I took a couple pictures of Mia Farrow into the hairdresser and said ‘I wanna look like this. Make it happen,'” Watson recalled. Now, it seems that Watson herself is the celebrity who has inspired countless others to take the plunge and cut their hair short.
