Emma Watson’s short hair plans were a secret

Emma Watson’s pixie cut wasn’t just a surprise to fans. The actor didn’t tell anyone she was planning on trimming her tresses. In an interview with Collider, the Beauty and the Beast actor revealed she didn’t want any negativity or for anyone to try to dissuade her from her plans.

“I kind of knew I would get stick, and that’s why I didn’t tell anyone I was gonna do it,” Watson said. “I didn’t tell anyone I was gonna do it. I just went and had it done and just kind of waited for people’s reactions.”

Watson’s short hair might have surprised many people, but it had been on her mind for several years. In fact, The Perks of Being a Wallflower actor was still a teenager when she got the idea.

Emma Watson’s pixie cut happened after ‘Harry Potter’

Why did Watson want to cut her hair in the first place? According to the actor, she was in desperate need of a change.

“I’ve wanted to do it since I was about 16, and when Harry Potter ended in June, I just needed a change,” Watson told Marie Claire. “It was quite symbolic for me. It’s very short; it was buzzed at the back and on the sides. And it’s really liberating that I can walk out without thinking about it.”

In addition to being low-maintenance, cutting her hair was likely quite freeing for Watson. For the decade she was filming the Harry Potter movies, she was actually under contractual obligation not to alter her appearance. This meant she could not cut or color her hair. Considering that many people start experimenting with their hair in their teens, it makes sense that Watson did so as soon as she was legally able.

Make it happen,'” Watson recalled. Now, it seems that Watson herself is the celebrity who has inspired countless others to take the plunge and cut their hair short.
