Why Did Robyn Crawford Choose to Open up About Her Relationship With Whitney Houston Now?
While there has been a ton of speculation surrounding their close bond, many people’s questions about the pair’s friendship have gone unanswered—until now.
In her brand new her memoir, A Song For You: My Life with Whitney Houston, Crawford breaks her silence on the love affair and special bond she once shared with iconic singer.
With this being the first time Crawford’s sharing details of their friendship with the world, why did she decide to wait so long to tell her story?
Crawford wanted to stand up for the singer’s legacy
Whitney Houston was someone many of us have idolized for her breathing taking beauty, kind nature, and of course her amazing voice.
While she was someone many people looked up to, she was also a person who had a whole other life we didn’t even know about.
Earlier this month, the singer’s closest confidante, Robyn Crawford, decided to come forward and share what it was like being close friends with the iconic songstress.
Her memoir, A Song For You: My Life with Whitney Houston was received well by many who’ve always wanted to know what Crawford and Houston’s was relationship like behind closed doors.
Though many have had a positive response to her book, others really want to know why Crawford waited so long to share her story?
While appearing on a brand new episode of Facebook’s Red Table Talk with Jada Pinkett-Smith, Crawford revealed what persuaded her to forward with this information, seven years after the singer’s tragic passing.
“Well, first of all, let me say that I had great comfort in my silence. But over the years, I began to feel my silence shake,” Crawford explained. “Everything I heard, or read, it wasn’t accurate. When Whitney’s daughter Bobbi Kristina passed, that was the first time that I really felt the need to ask the question to Whitney, ‘What would you want me to do?'”
She continued, “That’s when I felt the need to stand up, to stand up for my friend’s legacy, to lift it.”
Crawford believes that she owed it to her friend to share her story
Following Houston’s peak years as one of the most successful musicians in the industry, her credibility began to tarnish due to her constant drug use.
Because many people started looking at the singer as someone who relied heavily on drugs, Crawford wanted to show the world that there was more to her friend than what she was made out to be.
With this book, Crawford was able to show the world that Houston was a light in many people’s lives. By writing this memoir, Crawford is keeping her friend’s memory and legacy alive, which is something she’s always wanted to do.
“I felt the need to share who the person was behind the extraordinary talent, that’s all I kept hearing,” she shared. “She had this, she had that, then she just tossed it all away. I was there. I felt it was necessary to talk about the Whitney that I know who was thoughtful with her generosity. It’s my duty to do that.”
