While The Bachelor has captivated the hearts and minds of viewers across the United States, there are still some uncomfortable facts for fans to face about the show. Namely, the fact that The Bachelor has yet to host a black bachelor. With Mike Johnson passed up for the role in favor of Peter Weber, some fans are wondering if it will ever happen. And Rachel Lindsay is one of those fans.

Why wasn’t it Mike Johnson?

In a discussion with Entertainment Tonight, Rachel Lindsay pointed out that Mike Johnson was in pole position to be the next bachelor. She thinks it’s odd that he wasn’t chosen for the current season of The Bachelor.

Lindsay said, “I want to be hopeful, but when you have a contestant like Mike Johnson, who seems to check all the boxes, how is he not the Bachelor? I don’t understand.”

“I’m sure they have some reason for not picking him, and I’m going to trust in that, but at the same time, the system isn’t working in giving us a Bachelor who is a person of color. So we need to change the system. Something has to be done. Break the rules, step outside the box, give the people what they want!” she continued.

Rachel Lindsay also believes that because Peter Weber was chosen, the next season of The Bachelorette won’t feature a person of color either. “You’ve seen some of the girls that Peter’s dated. It came out before, his girlfriend was in the news from the past, before Hannah. So, you know what his type is at this point. And so, I expect girls to look more like Hannah than they do like me or someone else of color,” said Lindsay.

Rachel Lindsay’s husband, Bryan Abasolo, said, “I hope next year, the 25th Bachelor anniversary, they go back and choose Mike.”

Peter Weber is cookie cutter

Rachel Lindsay did have some nice things to say about Peter Weber. She did have some nice comments for the new star of The Bachelor.

“I think Peter seems like a very nice guy, he seems lovely, this is absolutely nothing against him,” started Lindsay, “But how many Peters have we seen before? What season are we on? 24. We’ve seen 24 Peters. I’m bored. It is nothing personal against him. I’m sure it will turn out to be a great season. But for the first time I was very confident that we were going to see our first black bachelor.”

“I mean, what we saw with Peter on Hannah’s season is that he was very open. And then when you saw his family you saw they were so lovely, and they want him to find love. And he’s a person who gives his all in relationships. That’s the take that I got. So I’m so excited that he’ll be open,” added Lindsay.

Peter Weber says the finale will be ‘raw’

According to Peter Weber, his season of The Bachelor will be emotionally challenging. Weber told USA Today, “It’s definitely a unique ending just like every story has, but all in all, in one word, it was raw and I’m proud of that.”

Weber added, “I wore my heart on my sleeve literally the entire time from night one when I first met everyone through the very end, the last day.”
