DC’s The Flash movie is finally underway and fans are pumped. Although the coronavirus outbreak has caused a delay, the release date remains firmly set and the principal cast is confirmed. Although some details are still forthcoming, some fans seem to think that Grant Gustin, who stars as the Scarlett Speedster in The CW’s The Flash series, will appear in the film. Here’s a breakdown of why The Flash fanatics anticipate a double dose of Barry Allen in the movie.

The Flash from the movie had a cameo on The CW

Ezra Miller will portray Barry Allen, aka The Flash, in the solo film that centers around the hero. Fans will remember Miller from 2017’s Justice League, in which he co-starred with Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Godot, Jason Momoa, and Ray Fisher. The actor also popped up briefly as The Flash in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad.

The Flash fans have barely been able to contain their excitement about Miller’s most recent cameo in The CW’s Arrowverse crossover event, Crisis on Infinite Earths. In the story, the multiverse collapsed, but the two Flashes from alternate universes still came face to face for a fleeting moment.

Twitter fans want a double dose of Barry Allen

In Crisis on Infinite Earths, both versions of Barry were perplexed, but the audience expressed more intense emotions after seeing Gustin and Miller share a scene. A series of tweets offer informed speculation and anxious hopes that Miller and Gustin will appear together again.

One user mused, “Just scrap The Flash movie and put Ezra Miller on TV with Grant Gustin, they’ll have such a nice time together.”

It seems unlikely that Warner Bros. would abandon plans to move forward with The Flash movie in favor of a weekly Flash team-up between Miller and Gustin on network television. However, it is not beyond the realm of possibility that Gustin’s version of The Fastest Man Alive would materialize in the DC Extended Universe.

Comicbook.com tweeted, “Now that Ezra Miller showed up in the Arrowverse, Crisis on Infinite Earths, it seems only fair that Grant Gustin get to appear as The Flash in a DC movie.”

‘Flashpoint’ could mean multiple versions of The Flash character

It has been rumored that The Flash movie plot will be based on ‘Flashpoint,’ the DC Comics storyline in which the speedster discovers alternate timelines.  If ‘Flashpoint’ is indeed the basis for the film, the multiverse and alternate versions of the speedster could come into play.

When talking about plans for the film, Miller himself was quoted by CBR.com saying, “It’s not just the DC Multiverse. It’s the Speedster Multiverse.”

While the studio has yet to confirm online fan theories about Gustin’s potential involvement in the “Speedster Multiverse,” an anonymous source told We Got This Covered that TV’s Barry Allen could actually appear in the film. The buzz continues on Twitter with  one user noting,

Rumors point [to a] ‘cameo’ of The Flash (Grant Gustin) of Arrowverse in The Flash movie. [The] film will adapt the ‘Flashpoint’ arc from comics, and can have a special connection with Crisis on Infinite Earths from The CW.

Could the comic book buffs be on to something? With any luck, fans have not seen the last of the dynamic duo of Miller and Gustin.
