Anybody who has seen Hugh Jackman interviewed knows that he likes to have a little bit of fun. Whether there are stories about his antics on a set or his playful interviews worldwide, Jackman knows how to have a good time without crossing any lines. He jokingly crossed one line, however, and had to apologize to Amal Clooney because of it.

Hugh Jackman’s career

Born in Australia, Jackman got his start on television. He first starred in Law of the Land before securing a role in the series Correlli, according to IMDb. After Correlli lasted just one year, however, Jackman continued getting journeyman work on television and movies. At the same time, he was trying his hand at a stage career. His first significant role overseas in America was a recording of a stage production of Oklahoma!

The following year, however, Jackman officially entered the mainstream after taking on the role of Wolverine in X-Men. A new household name was born. From sequels to his superhero project to other major films like Swordfish, Jackman became a versatile leading man who did not adhere to one particular genre or style. He won a Tony in 2004 for his turn in The Boy from Oz.

As Jackman’s career progressed, he started getting more acclaim for his acting chops, too. His 2013 role in the screen adaptation of Les Misérables showed a man not only with the chops to lead a Marvel movie but a man who was successful on the stage, as well. He could sing, dance, act and work with several of the biggest names in show business.

Recently, after retiring the Wolverine character after Logan, Jackman has had a slew of other hits. The Greatest Showman once again allowed him to explore his musical roots for a mainstream audience, and he has several upcoming roles in the making. As his star rises, fans get a look into Jackman’s mind. Perhaps this look got a little too close when he opened up about a celebrity crush.

Who would Jackman date?

In 2015, Jackman had a little bit of fun on Twitter. Posting a video of an interview promoting Pan, Jackman was asked who which celebrity he would date if he were given the opportunity. Jackman had a surprising answer.

“I reckon George Clooney,” Jackman said, according to Mental Floss, after some pondering. “Cause he’s funny, and he’s naughty, and he’s kind of cheeky.”

Along with the video, Jackman apologized to Clooney’s wife, Amal. The entire thing was in good fun, but it served as an insight into Jackman’s comedic mind. However, Amal doesn’t have to worry about Jackman stealing her husband. He’s been happily married to Deborra-Lee Furness since 1996.

Marvel Actor Hugh Jackman Didn’t Originally Want to Become an Actor

Jackman wasn’t answering that question as a bachelor. He has been married to Deborra-Lee Furness for over 24 years and counting. Through those times, Jackman has been vocal about his love for his wife. They met on the set of one of his first acting roles, and they have been together ever since.

Before the couple settled down and had kids, they made sure that they were compatible and open with each other. This, according to Jackman, is the key to their successful marriage.

“Deb and I made a pretty simple but powerful choice to look each other in the eye at every crossroads in life. Those crossroads are sometimes big, sometimes they’re small, sometimes you don’t even realize they’re crossroads until you look back. But at those moments, we said we’d ask each other, ‘Is this good or bad for our marriage?’ Or, now that we’ve got kids, ‘Is this good or bad for our family?’ And as often as possible, we do the thing that is good for our family.” (per Hello)

Hollywood isn’t likely to have a new power couple in Jackman and Clooney soon, but it would appear as though both sides of that are happy to be where they are. Who knows? Maybe this will be the basis for a future on-screen opportunity.
