‘Pose’s co-creators just announced its final season

After bringing stunning looks and catwalks to the runway for three successful seasons, the stars of Pose will soon be taking their final bow.

On Mar. 5, the show’s co-creators announced that the trailblazing series will come to an end after Season 3.

“It was a very difficult decision for us to make, but this has been an incredible journey and we’ve told the story we wanted to tell the way that we wanted to tell it,” co-creator Steven Canals said in a recent post shared to the show’s Twitter account. “I, along with my incredible collaborators, never intended on changing the television landscape, I simply wanted to tell an honest story about family, resilience, and love.”

After premiering in 2018 on FX, Pose quickly gained a steady following due to it spotlighting New York City’s African-American and Latino LGBTQ community as well as its underground ball culture, a movement that first gained notice in the 1980s.

Since then, each season of Pose has been met with critical acclaim and has earned its creators and cast numerous accolades, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama.

Why is ‘Pose’ ending after three seasons?

Now that we know Pose is ending after Season 3, we can’t help but wonder why a show that has been such a success is leaving the air so soon.

After announcing the series’ end, Canals seemed to answer this question in a post shared to his Twitter account.

“Hey Pose fam! We made the decision to end @PoseOnFX after 3 seasons because we reached the intended ending of our story,” he wrote. “This experience has been life changing. THANK YOU is too small a word. And yet, it’s what is in my heart. Hope to see you in May 2 when we debut.”

Co-creator Ryan Murphy gave a similar sentiment in a statement obtained by Deadline.

“We got to tell the exact story we wanted, as we wanted to tell it, and I’m incredibly honored and grateful,” he said. “Pose‘s story may end in 1996, but its impact will go on forever.”

When will Season 3 of ‘Pose’ air?

As for when the third and final season of Pose will air, Entertainment Weekly reports that it will debut on May 2 at 10 p.m on FX.

According to a network release, the final season is set in 1994, when the ballroom circuit “feels like a distant memory for Blanca (MJ Rodriguez), who struggles to balance being a mother with being a present partner to her new love, and her latest role as a nurse’s aide.”

In the meantime, the AIDS crisis becomes the leading cause of death for Americans aged 25-44, and Pray Tell (Emmy winner Billy Porter) “contends with unexpected health burdens,” all while the rise of a vicious new house forces the Evangelistas to consider their own legacy.

Though we’re sad that Pose is ending, it sounds to us that the show will be going out with a bang — and to be honest, we weren’t expecting anything less.
