These days, Prince William’s wife, Kate Middleton, and her sister, Pippa Middleton, appear to be extremely tight but there was reportedly a bit of sibling rivalry between them at one point. According to a royal expert, Kate was “jealous” of Pippa before marrying the future king.

Here’s more on those reports and why it’s being claimed that the Duchess of Cambridge was jealous of her little sister.

Was Kate ‘jealous’ of Pippa for this reason?

The internet has been buzzing after an article written by royal reporter Emma Cowing in 2008 detailing Kate’s “jealousy” towards Pippa resurfaced.

“There is, allegedly, some jealousy between the pair,” Cowing wrote in The Scotsman. “Kate was always quite jealous of Pippa. I sensed that she feared being eclipsed by her because Pippa has more natural effervescence, she is socially much more at ease and was always popular with everyone, especially (brother) James’ friends.”

A source who went to St. Andrew’s University told Cowing that Pippa gained a good number of friends as soon as she got to the college but was careful about who she associated with.

“She was very charming about it but quite ruthless in cultivating the right friends,” the source claimed. “If she found out that someone had impressive social credentials — the right title, standing, connections — she would immediately pay them a lot of attention, whereas before she wouldn’t have shown the least interest.”

Pippa almost stole the spotlight at her sister’s royal wedding

Kate is a member of England’s most high-profile family now while Pippa prefers to live a more quiet life. But the younger Middleton sister almost stole the spotlight the day Kate married the prince. We all remember the attention Pippa got that day when she was photographed from behind carrying the duchess’ dress.

Princess Diana’s biographer, Andrew Morton, spoke about the attention Pippa received when she served as the maid of honor at Kate and William’s royal wedding but opined that it didn’t take away from the bride.

“Just as William and Harry are very competitive, Catherine and Pippa are very competitive,” Morton said. “The day was Catherine’s day and Pippa played a significant walk-on part, that was it. I don’t think she stole the show. Pippa had an exotic walk-on part.”

The sisters’ close relationship today

Whether or not these reports are true one thing is for certain, the sisters enjoy a very close relationship these days.

Over the past few years, the ladies started their own families too. Kate, of course, shares Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis with Prince William.

Pippa meanwhile, who wed hedge fund manager James Matthews in 2017, welcomed her first child, Arthur, in 2018. Kate’s younger sister recently opened up about motherhood in her Waitrose column, Fitness with Pippa Middleton, and revealed how she and her son stay active together.

“Our local baby gym has been a saving grace,” she wrote. “It’s a big space full of fun, soft objects, playmats, stairs, balls, swings, mini trampolines and more to stimulate and physically engage babies and toddlers. Arthur burns lots of energy in this safe environment and learns many physical skills. I have also noticed him building his confidence with each visit.”

She added, “Water activity is a great form of exercise you can do with your baby.”
