The Hills: New Beginnings Season 2 premiered last night and the old gang is back up to their old antics. Fans of The Hills reboot and the original show know that if there is one thing this group can do, it’s hold a grudge. So continuing the show with the same cast for multiple seasons may actually prove quite difficult.

‘The Hills’ reboot Season 2

In the original version of The Hills, Heidi Montag and her husband, Spencer Pratt, were often the targets of drama within the group and over a decade later, nothing has changed.

“I feel like Speidi’s on the chopping block a lot,” Montag told Entertainment Tonight of The Hills: New Beginnings Season 2. “I think there were a lot of high emotions and a lot of heightened things going on for everybody, so I think we were an easy target for a lot of people.”

This season, Montag, in particular, got a lot of backlash from the rest of the group for wanting to party after a year of being cooped up due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“I felt very judged and mom-shamed because we had just been through a pandemic,” Montag said. “We almost lost our business. We had a really hard time keeping employees, and we put all of our own money into PrattDaddy Crystals. It was a lot for us. So balancing that and a toddler and trying to have a new baby. There was just a lot going on for us and then feeling the pressure on and off camera from cast and production, it just was a lot.”

Filming The Hills: New Beginnings Season 2 was very stressful for the pair, which they believe caused them to have trouble getting pregnant.

“Usually these shows are a lot — for us — more fun to film. This is the most stressful shooting of anything we’ve done,” Pratt said. “I don’t think it’s anything to do with anything other than Heidi was so stressed out, dealing with more drama from behind the scenes, on camera, so I think that’s why we haven’t been able to get pregnant.”

Why ‘The Hills: New Beginnings’ Season 3 might need a new cast

Though the show’s premise is that it follows a group of friends, new people are added to the cast from time to time. Last season, The O.C. star Mischa Barton was added to the cast, but ultimately, she wasn’t a fit.

“No offense to Mischa, but we don’t really miss Mischa,” Brody Jenner told the New York Daily News after it was announced that she wouldn’t be returning for season 2. “Bringing Mischa on to begin with was just, it was sort of awkward.”

“All the people that we film with now are people that we’ve grown up with and we know each other,” he said. “We’re all really close friends.”

DJ Caroline D’Amore has joined the cast for season 2, but according to Speidi, even more new people may need to join next season.

“I would imagine if there was a season 3, it would be with an all-new cast because after this season, I don’t see how everyone would be able to be in the same room once this airs,” Pratt said. “We don’t even know what people are saying in their testimonials.”

“This group, I feel like, holds grudges to the end,” Montag added.
