Beyoncé’s ‘Black Is King’ premieres on Disney+ during July 31

Hot off of heels of the “Black Parade” Juneteenth premiere, Queen Bey is back with a visual album and an empowering message for fans. Black is King features the music of her album The Lion King: The Gift and, for some fans, came at a perfect time, in line with the growing Black Lives Matter movement.

With Black Is King set to premiere on Disney’s streaming platform, some are looking back at Beyoncé’s 2016 release, Lemonade. Currently, that groundbreaking visual album is not available on Disney+ or on its rival platform, Netflix.

‘Black Is King’ will be the second visual album of Beyoncé

When Beyoncé dropped Lemonade back in 2016, the visual album was only available for streaming on the premium television network HBO. The television special premiered on April 23, 2016, on HBO at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT. Since then, it’s worked its way through the fan base, being performed live by the artist at events like Coachella and her On The Run II World Tour.

Although it was initially only available on Tidal, Lemonade since made its way to Spotify and Apple Music. (The artist even shouted it out during “Nice,” saying “If I gave two f*cks, two f*cks about streaming numbers. ‘Would have put Lemonade up on Spotify.”)

Now, some fans are wondering if Lemonade will make the switch to any streaming platforms, following Beyoncé’s visual labrum debut of Black is King. Unfortunately, the artist has not specified if, or when, Lemonade would join any subscription service’s library.

There’s no word regarding if or when ‘Lemonade’ will premiere on Disney+

Beyoncé worked with two of the world’s biggest streaming giants in the past. She debuted her Emmy-nominated documentary, Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé exclusively on Netflix.

In terms of her relationship with Disney, Beyoncé has since gone on to appear as a voice actress in The Lion King and perform during ABC’s Disney Family Singalong. It made sense that her visual album, featuring the music of The Lion King: The Gift, would premiere on Disney+.

Although this production will feature a new story and clips of the artist herself, it helps to tell the story of Disney’s animated classic movie, featuring music inspired by Africa. So far, Lemonade is not listed on Disney’s streaming platform’s library, although there are still a few days until Black Is King will debut.

Black Is King premieres on July 31. Until then, fans can watch the 2019 adaptation of The Lion King on Disney+. To learn more about Disney+ and to subscribe, visit their website.
