Shakira has drawn renewed attention following her Super Bowl LIV halftime performance. She took the stage at the Feb. 2 event alongside Jennifer Lopez, delivering a career-spanning set that included nonstop dancing, surprise singers, and a children’s choir. It was a major comeback moment for the “Hips Don’t Lie” crooner, and now fans want to know what’s next.

Could it be a return to NBC’s hit competition series The Voice? Here’s what insiders have said so far.

A recap of Shakira’s Super Bowl performance

In case you missed it, the set saw Shakira perform her top songs — from “Whenever, Wherever” to “She Wolf.” She also was also joined by Bad Bunny and J Balvin, who performed their verse from Cardi B’s Billboard-topping track “I Like It.”

Towards the end of the set, Shakira and J. Lo took the stage together to make a political statement about immigration. They followed up with a spirited rendition of their song “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” and ended the show with a high-energy dance party.

The performance drew widespread praise from fans and critics alike and has been considered one of the best halftime shows in history. Beyond that, it was a big moment for Shakira, who has devoted much of her time to motherhood in recent years.

What’s next for Shakira?

Shakira is not only working on new music, but sources say she could make a “triumphant return” to the NBC series following her Super Bowl set.

“A return to ‘The Voice’ is very likely to be one of the first things to happen for her after Super Bowl,” a source told HollywoodLife on Feb. 6, pointing out that “NBC is clamoring to get her back in the seat.”

The insider also noted that Shakira seems open to going back to the show, explaining, “In the days after the Super Bowl, while she’s been relaxing, Shakira feels the love and is looking forward to the future and what’s to come in her career.”

“Shakira’s expecting many more opportunities to come from her Super Bowl halftime, both in music and hopefully film and TV,” the source added.

When was Shakira on ‘The Voice’ and why did she leave?

Shakira first appeared on the show for its fourth season in 2013. She served as a coach alongside Adam Levine, Usher, and Blake Shelton. She was also on the panel for the sixth season, which aired in 2014, but left to spend more time with her family. (Shakira has two sons — Sasha and Milan — with her longtime boyfriend, Spanish soccer player Gerard Piqué.)

In 2017, Shakira told Entertainment Tonight that she was not interested in returning to the show because it took up so much of her schedule. She said she could only balance music and touring and didn’t have time for much else. But now that her children are getting older, maybe she’s had a change of heart.

You’ll have to wait and see what happens. But for now, you can keep busy with new episodes of The Voice. Its 18th season will premiere on NBC on Feb. 24.
