Why did Zac Efron move to Australia?

In 2020, Efron put his Los Angeles home up for sale. At that time, he had been spending a lot of time in Byron Bay, Australia, and it became clear he would continue living Down Under.

According to TMZ, Efron moved to Australia because he is disenchanted with Hollywood. The outlet reported, “Our sources say Zac is burnt out living in and around Hollywood — he’s never been one for the limelight, or for being the center of attention, and we’re told he doesn’t like the paparazzi following him around town.”

Efron actually mentioned these feelings on his Netflix show Down to Earth. During the fourth episode, Efron shared that he had “gotta get out of Hollywood” because he felt the celebrity lifestyle would not help him get a “long, happy, mentally-sound life.”

Additionally, Efron reportedly felt, per TMZ, it was better to ride out the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in Australia and the United States.

In late 2020, Efron started being linked to model Vanessa Valladares. The two met when she was working as a waitress at Byron Bay General Store & Cafe, a popular spot with celebrities in the area. It was later revealed they started dating in July.

However, Efron and Valladares recently broke up after 10 months of dating. A source told People, “Zac broke things off with Vanessa recently. It just didn’t feel right to him anymore.”

Efron’s friend and radio host Kyle Sandilands also commented on the breakup on his radio radio The Kyle and Jack O Show. Sandilands said, “I can also confirm after speaking with him yesterday. Because I heard the rumors… [There was] no drama. It’s done. He’s back to work.”

Will Zac Efron be moving back to the United States?

Now that Efron and Valladares have broken up, some fans might be wondering if the actor would move back to the United States.

According to People’s sources, Efron doesn’t have plans to move back to the United States at the moment.

“Zac will still stay in Australia. He just loves Australia so much,” the sources shared. “He is working and busy with several upcoming projects. He is happy, healthy and enjoying life.”
