Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist fans can soon celebrate the most wonderful time of the year with Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas, a holiday-themed movie arriving on The Roku Channel in December. How did ‘Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist’ end?

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist follows a software developer named Zoey Clarke (Jane Levy). When an earthquake hits Zoey at the wrong time, she goes from having zero music knowledge to hearing everyone’s inner thoughts as musical numbers, or “heart songs.” She uses her new power to help others, but it often leads to confusing moral situations with relationships, work, and family.

By the end of season 2, Zoey finally learns (somewhat) how to navigate the ability. She settles on her best friend, Max (Astin), as a love interest after going between him and her co-worker, Simon (John Clarence Stewart). Zoey’s adjusting to her management position at work and coming to terms with her father’s death.

All seems right, but the series finale comes with a twist. Max can now hear and see the musical numbers, too. Unfortunately, the series ends before fans can see how that will affect Zoey and Max’s relationship.

Skylar Astin says fans will see Max exploring his power in ‘Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas’

Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas will pick up a few months after season 2. Zoey looks forward to celebrating Christmas with her family, but she struggles to recreate her father’s holiday spirit.

According to Astin, fans will find out where Zoey and Max’s relationship takes them in Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas. In an interview with New York Live‘s Sara Gore, he confirmed that Max will hear more of Zoey’s heart songs in the movie.

“We will definitely see what happens. So now Max has the ability to hear people’s thoughts through song, and more specifically, Zoey’s. And now they are actually a couple, so that can complicate things, that can make things more exciting, and all during the holiday season,” Astin explained.

Astin also teased that, of course, the movie will include plenty of holiday songs. So far, fans have seen a preview of Mo (Alex Newell) singing “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” as seen below.

Astin couldn’t share exactly which tunes Max will belt in Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas. However, he did say he’ll bring some “Hanukkah magic.”

“I’ll be spinning dreidels and singing G sharps,” he added.

For now, Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas will wrap up the NBC show’s story. However, if the movie does well, it could lead to more films or a series revival. As Deadline reported, after NBC canceled Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, it shopped around extensively for other networks to continue the series. The Roku Channel seems to be considering making more installments.

Likewise, Astin said the cast would love to continue the story. He explained that they’re “hopeful” the movie will lead to other projects.

“We love doing the show. We love these characters that we’ve created, and we love the relationship with the fans. I mean, this literally is happening because the fans drummed up all that support,” Astin told Gore. “So if they want to do Zoey’s Extraordinary Vacation or Extraordinary Labor Day, whatever they want to do, we’re here for it, and they know exactly where to find us.”

Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas premieres on The Roku Channel on Dec. 1.
