Miley Cyrus recently flaunted an engagement ring at the premiere of Avatar: Fire and Ash. The “Flowers” singer is marrying drummer Max Morando, her boyfriend of four years. Cyrus’ eye-catching ring feels unique to her, but it shares one thing in common with her former ring from Liam Hemsworth.

Cyrus’ ring from Morando is a cushion-cut stone in a thick, yellow-gold band. The diamond is bezel-set and east-west oriented rather than the more traditional north-south.
Reyne Hirsch, a brand ambassador at Worthy and former Antiques Roadshow appraiser, tells Showbiz Cheat Sheet that Cyrus’ new ring also has something in common with the one she received from Hemsworth.
“Miley’s ring looks to be a custom design,” she said in an emailed statement. “It’s a bezel set, cushion cut diamond set with a heavy yellow gold band. Ironically, the diamond is the same cut as her previous engagement ring from Liam Hemsworth, but this one is less dainty and floral in theme.”
In 2012, Hemsworth proposed to Cyrus with a 3.5-carat, cushion-cut ring. It also had a yellow-gold band, though this one had more intricate carvings.

Cyrus and Morando are a private couple. Many casual fans expressed surprised after learning they’d dated for four years before their engagement. As a result, Cyrus said she doesn’t want to share many details about their engagement.
“The detail that I can share is that for us, our privacy and us kind of keeping it small has been something that I’ve been astounded that I’ve actually been able to have and being able to kind of have more choice,” she told People, adding, “I think it’s also being older, being more protective of what I’m open to sharing.”
Still, she revealed that Morando proposed while they were on a recent trip in Asia.
“I am not easy to surprise because I love to control every situation, and I had completely surrendered,” Cyrus said on Good Morning America. “And I’m telling you, I was so, so surprised.”
She spoke fondly about him earlier this year
In a joint interview with her mother and sisters earlier this year, Cyrus spoke about her relationship with Morando. She said that in the past, she stayed in the wrong relationships for too long.
“Mom’s always wanted me to stay with the wrong guy ‘cause they’re hot,” she told The Cut.
She said that she finds Morando “hot as hell,” but noted that the relationship worked because he respected her.
“I ended up with a person who means a lot to me and treats me really well and respects me,” she said. “I had to learn that the hard way because my mommy taught me the wrong way and then I had to learn the right way by myself.”
