2 Real Housewives Slam Bad Bunny’s Halftime Show: ‘Worst Halftime Show Ever’
According to early reports, Bad Bunny’s halftime show is on pace to be one of the most-viewed halftime shows of all time. While many people have celebrated his performance, some viewers were not fans. Two former Real Housewives got on social media to complain about his halftime performance. Here’s what they said about the show.
Former Real Housewife Jill Zarin didn’t like Bad Bunny’s halftime show
In a since-deleted Instagram video, former Real Housewives of New York star Jill Zarin said his halftime show appalled her.
“It was the worst halftime show ever,” she said. “I just don’t think it was appropriate to have it in Spanish, and, quite frankly … grabbing his G [groin] area … I think it was totally inappropriate. You’ve got all these young kids watching the Super Bowl, and he doesn’t have to be grabbing himself every five seconds because he’s so insecure. Seriously.”
She criticized the show for having “no white people.” She noted that while she couldn’t understand the lyrics, she believed he was making a political statement against ICE. Bad Bunny criticized ICE in a Grammy acceptance speech last week.
“I don’t speak Spanish. I would’ve liked to have known the words he was saying,” she said. “To me, it looked like a political statement because there were literally no white people in the entire thing. I’m not taking a side, one way or the other … I think it was an ICE thing. I think that the NFL sold out, and it’s very sad.”
She then speculated that Lady Gaga, who is white, had a facelift. Lady Gaga was a surprise guest performer in the show.
“Lady Gaga got a facelift. I didn’t recognize her. I literally had to Google her face to see who it was because we all couldn’t agree who it was,” she said. “That was kind of fun in the middle of halftime. At least it gave us something to do because it was so hard to watch.”
Zarin received swift backlash for her statement and took the video down.
Taylor Armstrong also didn’t appreciate the show
Taylor Armstrong, a former star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, also had a negative opinion of the halftime show. She shared an image of Russell Crowe in Gladiator with her face replacing his.
“Were you entertained?” she wrote. “I am embarrassed for the NFL and Apple for the Super Bowl halftime show totally in Spanish with a Cuban flag!!”
Bad Bunny made political statements during his halftime show
Bad Bunny’s halftime show was a love letter to Puerto Rico. He also used it to promote a message of unity. He spoke English for the only time to say “God Bless America.” He also held up a football that read “Together, we are America.” A billboard behind him read, “The only thing more powerful than hate is love.”
Bad Bunny’s halftime show was controversial from the moment it was announced. A number of conservative figures, including Donald Trump, criticized the decision to have him perform. Turning Point USA even hosted its own alternate halftime show starring Kid Rock. Despite the controversy surrounding it, millions of people still tuned in to watch Bad Bunny.
