Here is everything we know so far.

What happened to Kris Boyd?

In mid-November 2025, Kris Boyd was out with friends in Midtown Manhattan. The Jets cornerback was reportedly standing outside of a popular lounge in the early morning hours when he was involved in a verbal altercation. The verbal altercation turned physical when a man, believed to be Frederick Green, produced a handgun and fired two shots. One shot hit Boyd in the stomach, traveling towards his lung. The professional NFL player was taken to the hospital. He was released several days after the shooting, but he quickly returned to the hospital for complications. He remained hospitalized for several more weeks. Boyd has been navigating complications from the shooting ever since. It is unclear when, or if, he’ll return to the NFL.

While Boyd has been navigating his return to health, the NYPD was hard at work trying to find the man responsible for the shooting. They honed in on Green fairly quickly. According to several sources, prosecutors have argued that there is expansive suvalience footage that links Green to the near-fatal shooting. They have also pointed to his quick retreat from the city and changes to his appearance as proof that he was attempting to escape detection. It is unclear if Boyd and Green were acquainted with each other prior to the shooting.

The 21-year-old rapper has been charged with multiple felonies. Green has been charged with attempted murder in the second degree. He has also been charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and assault in the first degree.

He fled the area immediately after the shooting

According to Yahoo! Sports, Green fled New York City immediately after the shooting and took steps to evade police. According to the outlet, police eventually traced the alleged shooter to an area in upstate New York close to the Canadian border. It is unclear if Green was planning to cross the border. He was eventually brought back to New York City, where he remains jailed as his case progresses.
