The A-Lister Who Was Forced to Change Outfits Because of Cannes No Nudity, No Volumious Dress Code and the Star Who Broke the Rule
The Cannes Film Festival implemented some new rules for the celebrities and filmakers who are walking the red carpet at the annual event. The 78th edition of the festival has a no-nudity policy. The new rule might seem like organizers just don’t want an incident and scene like the one Bianca Censori and Kanye West made at the Grammys.
Cannes press officers explained: “The aim is not to regulate attire per se, but to prohibit full nudity on the red carpet, in accordance with the institutional framework of the event and French law.”
The official Cannes Film Festival charter reads: “For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as in any other area of the festival. Voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theater are not permitted. The festival welcoming teams will be obligated to prohibit red carpet access to anyone not respecting these rules.”
Berry revealed that she couldn’t wear the dress she planned as it went against the new rule
Halle Berry attended the festival and posed on the red carpet at the screening of Partir Un Jour (Leave One Day). She was mindful of the new dress code as the no-more-voluminous and long-train looks forced her to switch from her original outfit and go with a Plan B to make sure she respected the new rules.
“I had an amazing dress by Gupta that I cannot wear tonight because it’s too big of a train,” the Oscar-winner said per The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m not going to break the rules.”
Berry added that she did understand and was on board with banning nudity, saying: “The nudity part is also probably a good rule.”
The X-Men actor donned a striped Jacquemus creation for the red carpet instead.
Berry chose other Cannes-appropriate outfits earlier in the week including a black fringed Alexandre Vauthier top and wide-leg black pants with black sunglasses. She also rocked a sophisticated tweed Chanel suit in black with flecks of white. The jacket featured ruffle details with buttons down the front placket and a matching skirt.
Klum broke the no large train rule
While Berry followed the new rules, not everyone did and that includes Heidi Klum who walked the red carpet in one of those banned volumious dresses with a long train.
The model rocked a striking Elie Saab Haute Couture gown at the opening ceremony of the film festival. The strapless poofy pink number featured a high leg slit with blooming flower detailing down the entire dress which flowed out into a train that was clearly too long for the new Cannes dress code.
It did not appear that Klum was stopped by anyone on the festival’s welcoming teams who were tasked with enforcing the new rules. So either the former America’s Got Talent judge and Project Runway host didn’t get the memo or she was intentionally pushing boundaries with her eye-catching outfit.
Whatever the case may be, Klum certainly garnered a lot attention with that dress.
